Doctor Who~Farewell to the Ponds
In general I was happy about it. I've seen some people say that Amy & Rory didn't have to have that kind of ending...they could have just realized life moves on and they had a life separate from the Doctor (as hinted in the previous ep). True they could have gone this route but I think no matter what it would not be believable to me that Amy & Rory would stop traveling with the Doctor, just like that. He was an important part of their life.
So yes I guess we did need something sad to really separate Amy & Rory from the Doctor, because for me they would never choose to leave him, not unless circumstances made them have to leave him.
But at the same time while the ending was sad, it wasn't miserable. Yes Amy & Rory are separated from the Doctor but it was with the knowledge that they are together. The Doctor might not have been able to live that life with them, but they lived a fulfilling and happy life. People come and go out of the Doctor's life always (that is part of his character) but he should know that Amy & Rory did not have a bad life because of being with the Doctor. They saw and did amazing things because of the Doctor, and in the end they can now reminisce about that time with him together.
I guess my only issue is I felt the Doctor was more concerned about Amy. Just slight changes in writing, having the Doctor yell Rory & Amelia would have helped. I mean I have no doubt it my mind that the Doctor loves both Amy & Rory, but I do feel he shows his love for Amy more. But then I guess it is okay because while Amy always loved the Doctor & Rory, she obviously loves Rory more...so I guess it balances out. ;)
To me this is definitely the best ending for companion(s) since New Who started. I am not completely convinced that we will never see Amy & Rory again (because this is Who, rules are changes and broken all the time) but for now while I will miss them terribly (and that wonderful friendship they had with the Doctor) it was indeed a fond farewell to the Pond's
