Now that Fredric March month has ended on TCM (although I still have two films I recorded to watch) we are onto November where TCM has one of the most amazing months yet. I am not going to be able to get out of the house there is so many good things on.
First and Foremost they are running a brand new 7 hour documentary called Moguls and Movie Stars which will cover the history of Hollywood from the earliest peepshows in the late 1800's to the end of the studio system in the 1970's. Each segment which is an hour long will run every Monday at 8:00 PM and the documentary will run into December. There also will be repeats throughout the month.
Reviews are coming it and they are all
pretty enthusiastic so far And what is extra great about these documentaries is TCM is coupling them with great films which meatch each decade being discussed. So this Monday night they will showing the early films of Thomas Edison. I feel like such a nerd but I am super super excited about this. There will also be a lot of great silents in prime-time including plenty from Charlie Chaplin and also my personal favorite Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans will be shown at 9:00 PM EST on November 15th. The Restored Metropolis and a documentary on discovering the new footage plus other Lang films are playing on November 7th starting at 8:00 PM EST. And then they have a bunch of your regular must see staples from the 1930's and 1940's. :)
Which then reminds me of this great tribute I found to 30's and 40's film. For me the two best decades for Hollywood film:
