War & Peace

Taking a break from FMA (although perhaps that is a good thing because I need some distraction) to say today I completed my goal for 2010 which was to finish War & Peace. This is now the longest book I ever read at about 1,400 pages. Although despite taking time it wasn't really a difficult book at all.

As for the book itself I enjoyed it immensely. Perhaps not as much as Anna Karenina but it still got the full 5 stars from me. My only issue with it is Tolstoy's tangents on history. In fact from reading the book I realized when I say I love historical fiction I don't like fiction about historical characters or major historical events. Instead I love fiction about regular people in historical times. War & Peace covers both these things but it is Tolstoy's fictional characters (Andrei, Marya, Natasha, Nikolai, Pierre, etc) who I love to read about not Napoleon or Alexander.

And now I will start Great Expectations
