Summer Under the Stars~Full Schedule

Okay the full schedule for "Summer Under the Stars" is out and I am salivating. Not so much for the stars themselves but for some of the films they are playing.

Full Schedule Here

I don't think there is one particular day I am really looking forward to (well John Mills as I already mentioned) but certain films......OMG TCM has made me so happy!

* On Aug 4th is Ethel Barrymore day and they are playing None But The Lonely Heart which is a Cary Grant film I wanted to see for a long time. They actually played it on the channel a few times before but always at times I could not catch it (and I have only had a way to record films very recently). This time they are playing it at 8:00 PM so I won't miss it.

* On Aug 6th is Ingrid Bergman day this is one of the days I am most excited for because she is definitely one of my favorite actresses but there are still a lot of her films I need to see. But what is most exciting they are playing two of the films she made with Rossellini Stromboli & Europa 51. Neither of these films are available on DVD and I have wanted to see them for the longest time.

* On Aug 12 is Norma Shearer day in general I am kind of excited about this because of her pre-code films but what I almost cried with delight when I saw it on the schedule Student Prince in Old Heidelberg is playing at 8:00 PM. This is one of my absolute favorite silent films. I saw it on youtube and it has since been removed for copyright reasons. I have wanted a copy of this film for so long (it's not on DVD) and now to think I will get the chance to record it. Really this has made my day, I just have to somehow wait until August.

* Aug 16 is Lauren Bacall day, I am not a huge fan of Bacall but I do love her films with Bogie. They will be playing them all, most importantly Dark Passage which is the one I still need to see.

* On John Mills day (Aug 22) they are not playing In Which We Serve or any films he made with his daughter. They are however playing Hobson's Choice so I guess 1 out of 3 wishes isn't too bad. Dunkirk & The Way to the Stars also sound like good war films.

* On Aug 24 John Gilbert day they are of course playing a lot of silents. I am probably most interested in The Merry Widow directed by Stroheim. They are also playing The Phantom of Paris which is an early talkie I have wanted to see for some time. Most importantly they are playing The Big Parade at 8:00 PM. With this and Student Prince... that's two great silent films TCM is playing at normal hours. I am happily shocked.

* Aug 27 for Olivia de Havilland, like Bergman another actress I just want to see more of her films. I am most excited about the Heiress at 8:00 PM.

* Aug 28, Peter O'Toole day is always a good thing

* Aug 29 if I don't catch Young Mr. Lincoln before August (because I am pretty sure it is playing sometime between now & then) that is another film I want to see.

* I kind of wish they would play Unforgiven on Clint Eastwood day but ah well.

Overall I am quite pleased with the film selection this month especially the Rossellini films & Student Prince in Old Heidelberg. xD
