Match Game is Love

Recently I've become pretty obsessed with reruns of Match Game. Which is a game show from the 1970's where two contestants are read a sentence (usually a very silly one) and they have to fill in the blank with their own creative response (and the responses can get quite creative). Of course the object of the game is not just to come up with a creative response but to match your response with a panel of 6 celebrities.

The Regular Panelists from L to R: Richard Dawson, Charles Nelson Reilly, Brett Somers, & Gene Rayburn (Host). The other 3 panelists would change with every show but there were a few that were recurring guests

It is these 6 celebrities (and a crazy host) that make Match Game so awesome. In a way match game doesn't feel like just a game show but more like a variety show because you know the panelist are going to do something crazy and hilarity would ensue. Apparently they filmed an entire's week of shows in a day and then drank during their lunch break (hence the shows would get even crazier later in the week when they would show the stuff they taped after lunch).

At the time the series was pretty risque and was filled with innuendo's. It would be interesting to see them try to make a remake but since you can say almost anything today I fear it would not be the same. Not to mention could they ever find such awesome panelist who were not afraid to just have a good time even if they made fools of themselves. I also love when they made fun of the contestants & themselves for stupid answers. It was all in good fun and that is what made the series so great.
