Alex took his beloved Pashmina by the hand and led him out onto the dance floor. Facing him and placing his free hand on the Kitten’s hip, Alex nodded at the band. Seconds later, they were playing a lively tune. Alex took that as his cue and swept Pashmina across the dance floor. They hopped; side stepped, and twirled to the dance Alex had taught him in the weeks leading up to Wiesn. He said it was called the “Polski Danze” and Pashmina loved it as well as the music.
As they romped across the dance floor, other couples joined in. Peasant or noble, everyone who could dance, danced the ancient folk dance. When the song finished, the band played a waltz, another ancient dance that was slower, to give the dancers time to catch their breath, before launching into another Polski song.
Pashmina loved it. His skirts flying as he hopped, skipped, and kicked his way across the dance floor, left Pashmina giddy with excitement. He giggled when Alex held his hand up and twirled Pashmina around him, before gathering him in his arms for another romp the dance floor. While there had been dancing during Vinefest, it was nothing as lively as this. Even switching partners during the Polski Danze failed to dampen his enthusiasm for the Harvest Dance. When the dance ended and Pashmina ended up in Alex’s arms again, he was delighted when the band launched into a familiar tune and they did what Alex called the slap dance. All the clapping and hand slapping with Alex had him laughing, before being swept up in his arms and twirled about. They broke apart, and holding hands with their hands held high, they sedately circled the dance floor with the other dancers before the hand clapping and slapping started again. When the song ended, Pashmina backed off with the other girls as the men stomped forward in a circle and did a complicated hopping routine of slapping their knees and shoes. The girls came twirling back in and Pashmina followed along, as they moved between the men, before stepping outside the circle again so the guys could repeat their slapping moves.
Night gradually fell over Alex’s estate as the Harvest Dance headed towards its conclusion. Polski Danzes gave way to lively waltzes and even those became slower as people became tired after such a long day. The last dance of the night was the “Goodnight Waltz.” It was slow in tempo, despite all the changing of partners, and was long enough to give everyone on the dance floor a chance to say good night to the other dancers, before winding up in the arms of one’s original partner at the start of the dance. It combined elements of the Polski Danze, the quieter movements of the slapping dance, as well as the waltz. It ended with Alex leading Pashmina off the dance floor. Hand in hand, they walked over to the band to thank them for playing, before heading back to Alex’s chateau.
Pashmina hummed one of the songs played at the Harvest Dance as they walked along. Alex chuckled as he stopped. He was still holding his beloved Kitten’s hand. Pashmina looked over at him.
“Alex?”
“May I have this dance?”
Pashmina giggled as Alex pulled him close. They swayed together as they held each other. “Thanks, your Alexness.” He titled his face up to kiss him.
“For what?”
“For a wonderful time. Wiesn is so much fun.” Pashmina smiled.
“Good, I’m glad you enjoyed it as there’s several more days of this.” Alex’s eyes twinkled with mischief in the moonlight.
“Yeah?”
Alex nodded.
“Good.” Pashmina smiled saucily up at him. “What’s doing tomorrow?”
There’s a horse race, a livestock show, another dance, more beer tasting… Should I go on?”
Pashmina shook his head. “I want to be surprised. Can I wear my pretty dress again?”
Alex nodded, and leaning in, he kissed him. “Yes, but wouldn’t you like to wear one of the other dresses I got you?”
“Yeah.” Pashmina giggled as he wrapped his arms around his beloved patron. “Let’s hurry up and go to bed.”
“I like the sound of that.” Alex grinned.
“I meant hurry up and go to sleep so tomorrow’ll get here faster. I like Wiesn and I can’t wait to celebrate some more.”
Alex chuckled. “Very well then.” He kissed his beloved again, and letting go of each other, they turned and made their way home.
