“Buona Natale!” Luigi said as he handed an envelope to his best friend, Wolfgang. He leaned in, kissing him on both cheeks. Luigi beamed at his friend. “Open it!”
Wolfgang nodded. “Danke.” He opened the envelope and took out the Christmas card. It had a woman dressed in a fur bikini on it. Wolfgang chuckled at his friend and opened it. Inside, was a pair of tickets to a local production of The Nutcracker Suite. He looked at his friend and raised an eyebrow.
“You like?”
“Ja. It’s just…”
“I know how much you and Angela used to go and well, I uh, I thought we could go together.” Luigi grinned.
Wolfgang snorted. “You just want to go so you can pick up chicks.”
Luigi sputtered wordlessly.
“See?” Wolfgang pointed at him. “I’m right; you do want to pick up chicks.”
“But-but…”
“But nothing.” Wolfgang put the card and tickets back in the envelope. “Here,” he said, handing his friend an envelope.
Luigi took the proffered envelope. “Grazie!” He opened it and took out the card. Luigi looked at his friend in surprise.
“I figured we could go together and make a weekend out of it.”
“You hate roller derby.” Luigi raised his eyebrow.
“But you like it and that is your favorite team.”
“I know, but?”
“But nothing. They’re pretty girls… a little violent for my tastes, but still pleasant to watch.”
“Violent? Pfft! They’re supposed to push each other out of the way!” Luigi grinned.
“So you keep telling me.”
Luigi laughed. “Yup! So tell me again about this ballet thing.”
“Let’s make some coffee and I’ll explain it to you.” Wolfgang got the coffee going. As he did so, he explained out the ballet.
By the time they were sitting at the table, enjoying a cup, Luigi was sure he could sit through it without being bored. While they were enjoying a slice of cake, he explained all about roller derby and why those girls were so hot.
Wolfgang nodded. “I think we have two good weekends ahead of us.”
“You know it!” Luigi grinned.
They laughed.
