Author’s Note: Thanks to my friend Kat for pinking this! Also this was inspired by actual events. While away for the holidays, I came across Hello Kitty cocoa, bought a packet & tried it. XD Also please note that Amber belongs to Kat. I just get to play with her from time to time. :D
Bernd opened the pink packet and poured the contents into a mug. They were an interesting taupe color; not quite pink and certainly not the brown cocoa normally was supposed to be. Shrugging, he added water to the kettle & put it on to boil. While he waited, Bernd looked for the marshmallows, and finding them, took the bag out of the cabinet. He set it next to his mug.
Once the water was ready, Bernd poured it into the mug. He set the kettle down and stirred. The cocoa was still that weird-arsed taupe and not the pink he was expecting. Bernd hoped it tasted better than it looked. He added some milk before taking the mug over to the kitchen table. Sitting down, Bernd picked up the mug and sipped.
The cocoa tasted funny. It was not chocolaty like he hoped it would be. The cocoa had some definite strawberry notes to it. Deciding it was more okay than not, Bernd took another sip.
Amber chose that moment to breeze into the kitchen. “What are you drinking?”
Bernd set the mug down. “You know that packet of cocoa I got?”
“The Hello Kitty one?”
“Yeah. I finally decided to drink it.”
Amber looked at the contents of the mug. She made a face. “Oh…”
“Yeah. It kinda tastes better than it looks, but not by much. Cocoa’s a lot better.”
“Okay, then it’s good you only got one packet instead of a whole box of the stuff.”
“Yeah!” Bernd picked up the mug and drank the rest of it. “You want some of the normal stuff?”
“Okay.” Amber sat down at the kitchen table. She watched her boyfriend putter around the kitchen, chuckling softly to herself when he rinsed out his mug. Since the kettle was mostly hot, it didn’t take long before the two of them were sitting at the table, enjoying a mug of cocoa and some of Didi’s Christmas cookies.
“Now this is cocoa!” Bernd grinned.
Amber laughed. “If you say so.”
“I do!”
