A bee
staggers out
of the peony.
By Matsuo Basho (translated by Robert Hass)
Castiel wanders through the botanical garden. It is summer, the garden is in full bloom and the butterflies dance amongst the heady blossoms. The place is abuzz with the hum of conversation and insects. One insect in particular catches the angel’s attention. A big, fat bumblebee flits from flower to flower and Castiel spends the afternoon, following it. They meander through the English garden’s roses, past the water garden’s water lilies and lotuses, to the beautiful Asian garden, with its trailing wisteria, lush tiger lilies, and fat peonies. The angel watches, entranced, as a bee staggers out of the peony.

All That Is Gold by JRR Tolkien
All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.
“Come on, Sammy; let’s get in the car and go.” Dean opened the Impala’s door and got inside.
“Sure, Dean.” Sam got in too.
The sound of two doors closing served as the intro to the engine revving and the radio cranking out an old Zeppelin tune.
“Where we going?”
“Dunno…” Dean hummed along to the song. “Where the road takes us… ‘Ramble on and now’s the time, the time is now, to sing my song…’ Come on, Sammy, sing! ‘Ramble on ramble on, ramble on Baby…’”
They drove on, cranking tunes, as not all those who wander are lost…

The Road Goes Ever On by JRR Tolkien
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet,
And whither then? I cannot say.
The Road goes ever on and on, the black Impala goes down it. Dean drives, Sam rides shotgun, while they listen to songs of yesteryear and dream of days gone by. Stars twinkle in the night sky, this darkness is soft and familiar like lying in arms of an old lover. They ramble on where the road will take them, meeting people along the way. Lives saved, lives lost; it’s all the same in the end. Dean pulls down a street forgotten, past a home no more. The Road goes ever on and on down from the door where it began.
