Of heartbreaks and shattered dreams

Remember my post about the unchosen guys in dramas?

Actually, I found the saddest character. Some doesn't pity him though, because he did some quite evil things in order to steal the girl and his place back. But I think, anyone would have done what he did if they were in his place. And for me, all the good things that he did for the girl were more than any girl could ever asked for.

Meet Yul, from one the most popular K-dramas, Goong. He is warm, kindhearted, sweet, romantic, and charismatic. Cliche, you say?

Not so. He is the former crown prince of Korea. Yes, you read that right. Former crown prince. His father who was the King-in-waiting, died in a car accident when Yul was still a little boy. Upon his father's death, the position of the Crown Prince was given to his cousin, Shin. Not just that, he also was forced out of the country with his mother. Little did he realize that that was not all that he lost.

Years later, he returns to the country, and meets Shin's wife, Chae-kyung.

Shin married his wife through an arranged marriage. The previous King dictated that Chae-kyung is to become a Crown Princess, which means that she is to marry whoever is the Crown Prince at the time of marriage.

Do you get the idea now? No?

Well, Yul befriended Chae-kyung, who was always being cast aside by her indifferent and insensitive husband. Eventually, he fell for her sweet, innocent charm. Later, he learned that Chae-kyung initially was supposed to be married to him, since he was the original Crown Prince.

He then decided to follow his mother's wishes and compete with Shin for the throne after falling in love with Chae-kyung, although he originally uninterested with it.

"That sounds evil, so why pity him?", you may ask.

It was the things he said to mother that made me cry. He said, "Chae-kyung married Shin because he is the current Crown Prince. If dad didn't die, I would have become the Crown Prince, and she would have been married to me. She should have been married to me, not Shin!"

You see, when he lost his crown, he also lost the love of his life. In the end, he's left with nothing. Absolutely nothing.
