I think we're having an excellent run this weekend. Thursday we had a small crowd and it felt like a tough sell in places, but the crowd enjoyed themselves. Friday likewise, though the crowd was larger. Today we did a couple of scenes during the Brigid Faire, and then performed to a sold-out house. Lots of witches in the audience got the god in-jokes, and the crowd was very receptive and laughed in all the right places. Turns out, a number of folks I know attended that night, so I got some unexpected kudos afterward.
It was quite a day for me in terms of my own performance. For the Faire, I did the Anansi scene (for those who haven't seen the show, I narrate the story in song). The challenge came because we performed outside. I didn't know if I would sing loud enough. So I focused on the outside wall of the theater building and tried to fill the space from the stage to the wall. Sans microphone. I had to push just a little, but I achieved my goal. The woman staffing the cafe (inside the theater) said that she could hear me clearly. I set a personal goal for myself, a kind of target, and I hit my mark. So later, during the show, I definitely aced my solo.
Perhaps the funniest moment during the Faire came when my fellow kitsune and I decided unanimously that while it was nice to perform out of costume, we couldn't do it without wearing the fox ears. Those ears really make a difference.
I'm just getting home after a fabulous coffee date, still buzzing a bit from the show and the great conversation afterward. I'm getting close to ready for the show to be over -- I'm tired -- but I'm still enjoying myself immensely. Thanks to all of you who attended, and I hope I see the rest of you local folks sometime soon!
