We had some great shows this weekend. Despite my throat being in horrible shape from the lurgy, I haven't embarrassed myself in front of either set of parents. Whew! And my fellow actors have been right on it, too; good work all around.
Friday
quantum_dancer's parents attended, and afterward we took them to Malaga for tapas. I'd forgotten about the noise level in the bar, but we managed despite the volume. I love introducing them to new foods, and felt relieved that they liked it. Then we went to Halcyon for coffee, and got accosted by a drunk guy. It turned out ok, though; we ended up making friends with the folks sitting next to us (also being accosted by the drunk guy), and they were neat folks! I love Austin. I mean, strangers talk to you in all sorts of cities, but here there's a good chance they'll be cool, "my" kind of people.
Saturday my parents came. I only saw them briefly after the show because Mama has to work on Sunday mornings. However, I got some glowing parental reviews, and my mom proactively introduced herself to folks in the cast. I know my mom came to be proud of me, but I'm just so proud of her in general that I like to introduce her to people. Sometimes I feel like I'm hanging out with the Queen. After my parents left, I went to dinner with some old friends, and a new friend from the show tagged along. Luckily, the two groups mixed well! (This makes me like both sets of people even more.)
Today I'm tired, croaking, self-medicating with salt water gargles, hot honey-lemonade, and silence, and looking forward to another few days next week to maybe get over this damned congestion/sore throat. I'm having a great time with the show, and being in lousy voice displeases me.
