party hearty

Everything lined up just right: Friday we had a birthday/equinox/rosh hashanah/homecomeing/new moon party. I love having a table full of nosh and a room full of people. The best thing about this party is that it was a surprise! QD slipped behind my back and asked people over to celebrate my birthday (belated) since everyone had been too busy on the actual date. He told me about it in time to help with the plans, but it still surprised me. Everyone got pleasantly tipsy but there were no drunken incidents, and I think we all had a great time.

Saturday I went over to Nick's house for a couple of hours and we worked on a new song. It's a creepy song that makes one feel as though one is drowning. He says I sang sort of like Mazzy Star, in that dreamy way of hers. We recorded it quick-n-dirty, just so I'd remember how I lined up the funky words, and he's going to set about recording it properly with separate tracks and stuff. (All we have so far is a bass line and a vocal line. He's got to fill in all the pieces.) Working with Nick always makes me feel like a rock star, and it impressed the hell out of me that we worked the song out in about a half hour. QD got to sit at the mixer board and play sound engineer, which made me happy too.

Sunday we watched Netflix movies and engaged our inner slackers. The dogs got lots of petting. We caught up on our latest Battlestar disk and also watched the Great Muppet Caper. Later we saw Y Tu Mama Tambien, which though it is an excellent movie, also kind of bummed me out at the end.

I really didn't want to come to work today.
