how to wear a hakama: the nyp kendo club way.
XDDDD!!!
hakama should be tied at the waist.
bring the two lengths around to the back, the left overlapping the right one. (whoops, i've forgotten what they're called. XDD!!! the sempais will kill me! wahahahahahahaha!!!!)
bring them back to the front, and overlap them again. the one on your left over the one on your right. for neatness, it's best to overlap them at the side.
NO PIC:
after overlapping them, bring them back round to...your back. tie a knot, and a butterfly bow. pull until tight. at the back of your hakama is a small hard...thing. it's meant to be stuck between your back and the butterfly bow.
then take the other two strap things *ducks the sempais' shinai* and bring to the front. cross them again--left over right. take the one now on the left, slip it beneath the whole gathering of straps there, and pull tight (but not TOO tight). end result should resemble the picture.
take the strap on the left, fold it forward and down, angling it towards the right. end result should resemble the picture.
bring the dangling strap behind the loop to form a knot. maintain the squarish shape of the front strap, as in the picture, as you tighten the knot. adjust such that all you see in the front of the hakama is a neat little square.
tuck the free ends, using the straps at your waist to anchor them. neaten the gi. yay. you're done. now grab your shinai and WHACK!!! XDD!!! yay.
T_T i miss kendo training... *sobs* let's hope april's schedule is better...
