Summary: It's called the 'gift' or 'soul' by most. A strange, mysterious force only few possess on the planet that is half ocean and half desert. The people on the planet have lived in harmony with each other and their environment for centuries but something yet unknown is threatening to throw everything into chaos.
While one half of their group had gone out, the other half remained at the Ghayi. Nikaido and Senga were off to wherever - probably busy with each other. This left Fujigaya and Kitayama. The latter had disappeared right after breakfast. Something he’d done quite frequently after they had returned and after he had been well enough again to do so. Of course it hadn’t gone by unnoticed. Usually the other was quite social after all, liked to spend time with their group, especially with the younger ones.
Fujigaya could feel that something was wrong with the other. No, he knew there was something wrong with the other. It was rather obvious really.
So when he found himself alone and with nothing else to do - at least that’s what he told himself - he decided to find Kitayama. His feet followed an unknown path but for some reason they seemed to know exactly where they were going. He didn’t even have to think about where they were taking him. Soon, he arrived at his destination and sure enough, his eyes found the person he’d been looking for right in front of him.
“Ever since we came back you’ve been awfully quiet and contemplative,” Fujigaya stepped onto the roof balcony, arms crossed and eyes looking over the city that stretched out beyond the walls. “If things have gotten to you more than you’re letting on, it’s better if you tell someone about it instead of keeping things in.”
“Is someone speaking from experience there?” Kitayama asked from where he was half sitting and half lying in an alcove.
Fujigaya didn’t make a move to get closer to the other. “The others are worried about you, too but none of them dares to approach you exactly because they’re worried.”
Kitayama’s lips curled up into a smile, “So you took it upon yourself to come and talk to me and say what everyone else can’t.” He turned to look at the other, “Am I right? Well, I know I am because this is what always happens.”
“I’d like it if it didn’t become a habit,” Fujigaya grumbled but then sat down on a bench close to the other. “But I can also understand if there are only a certain people you want to or can talk to. And I guess I’m glad that I’m one of them.” He leaned back with his arms still crossed in front of his chest and his white hood drawn up. “So talk.”
“You’ve probably wondered about it, too but,” Kitayama started and then looked over the vast oceans of both water and sand below. “When do you think it will be back? When do you think is the time for reunions? And when that time comes, how will things be? Will we all have changed too much?”
Making a face - he’d had a feeling that this was what Kitayama had been thinking about - Fujigaya sighed dramatically. “I’d prefer not to think about this.”
“You’ve been thinking about it, too, admit it,” Kitayama prompted.
Fujigaya’s eyebrow twitched. Kitayama had been right of course. “I’d still prefer not to think about it.” Then he added in a quieter voice, “At least not yet. Not until it actually happens. Waiting will just make it feel even longer. Waiting makes time pass by slower.”
“What do you suggest we do then?” Kitayama asked.
“Go back to normal as much as we can. Of course we can’t forget this ever happened but life goes on. We cannot live in the past forever. The only way is forward, towards the future,” the other replied. “That’s how life is supposed to work.”
Smiling, Kitayama asked, “When did you become so positive?”
“It’s not exactly positive,” Fujigaya pointed out.
“I know,” Kitayama looked out over the city one last time. “Thanks, though. I think I needed that.” He got up and brushed the dust off his clothes.
Before he could leave, an arm stopped him. “What is it, Fujigaya?”
The other male got up and stepped over to Kitayama. “This stays strictly between us and I will kill you if you tell anyone else,” Fujigaya started. Instead of saying anything else though, he cupped Kitayama’s face and pressed their lips together. The kiss didn’t stay chaste for long, as their tongues circled and chased each other.
Of course the kiss wasn’t just a kiss. It was Fujigaya’s way of offering something and Kitayama accepting the offer.
Neither of them would have any problem with finding partners or just flings. But people from outside their ‘comfort zone’, people who didn’t completely understand them, would not be able to accept the way they wanted things to be done. They would not be able to accept them leaving once the ship returned, there would not well and truly be no strings attached. With each other, this problem did not exist. Neither of them would hesitate even for a heartbeat if the ones their hearts really belonged to were to return to them.
It was what they had discussed back on the ship before they had been attacked but they had never talked about what was going to happen to this ‘deal’ in the future.
When Fujigaya latched onto his neck, Kitayama asked with a smirk, “My room or yours?”
“Mine’s cleaner,” Fujigaya replied quickly.
“Just because Yokoo keeps cleaning it for you,” Kitayama remarked and hissed softly when the other bit down on his skin.
Fujigaya’s eyes were half-lidded and clouded with feelings when he looked at Kitayama, “Who even said we’d make it back to any of our rooms?”
Kitayama clicked his tongue as he grabbed onto the other and they both went down onto the floor right then and there in a wild and messy tangle of limbs and garments.

The door to Master Takizawa’s study opened and a lone figure slipped in. “I haven’t been in here in what feels like forever.”
Master Takizawa turned around and smiled at the ‘intruder’. “You just haven’t been back here in a long time, period. You travel more than Yara and I combined. I can’t even remember the last time you were here for more than just a couple of hours.”
“Does that mean you miss me?” the other’s lips curled up into an amused smile.
“Of course I do, idiot,” Master Takizawa stepped closer to the other figure and pulled them against his chest. “You should know that I do, Tsubasa.”
Master Tsubasa’s smile softened into a mellow one and he wrapped his arms back around Master Takizawa. “Admittedly, I miss you, too, Hide.”
“You just came here to say goodbye again, didn’t you? Now that things have settled down, you’re just going to leave again,” Master Takizawa sighed.
“You know me well.”
“I know you better than anyone else,” Master Takizawa locked the door. “Now then, we need to make this worthwhile. Who knows when I’ll be able to see you again.”
To be concluded...
