Summary: It's called the 'gift' or 'soul' by most. A strange, mysterious force only few possess on the planet that is half ocean and half desert. The people on the planet have lived in harmony with each other and their environment for centuries but something yet unknown is threatening to throw everything into chaos.

When they were on the ship that was taking them back to the Ghayi, Nikaido grabbed Senga and pulled him into his arms. His soul touched the others, wrapped itself around Senga’s so tightly the other almost felt like he was drowning in it.

“Nika!”

“It hurt so much. It hurt so damn much when he was doing that thing to you. When he was trying to rip your soul out of your body,” Nikaido whispered. “I could feel it, too. I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you. I swear I’ll never let anyone harm you again.”

“I won’t let anyone harm you either,” Senga whispered back.

Although he wasn’t some damsel in distress or someone incapable of protecting himself, Senga understood Nikaido’s feelings right now. He shared them as well. What had happened earlier had been something neither of them had ever experienced before. It had left a scar somewhere deep inside of them. The pain had penetrated their very being, reached to the innermost place. And with it, fear had crept into them. Both Senga and Nikaido were afraid of a few things but could handle those alright. This had been completely and utterly terrifying. And despite wanting to forget about it, neither of them felt they would ever be able to.

That Master Yara had killed Akut’ou was a small relief and it would hopefully help them to deal with things from now on.

Holding Nikaido’s hand and leaning against the other, they both verified each other’s presence. Their souls were still there, still connected, still ‘alive’.

Both of them disappeared into their little bubble, their own little world. Right now, physical contact wasn’t so important. Of course being together physically strengthened the bond but in this situation, the deeper bond was more important. The pain both of them had experienced could not be soothed by any touch or caress their hands or lips were capable of.

When Master Yara checked on Nikaido and Senga a sad and yet relieved smile tugged on his lips. The pair was curled up in a little ball of soul-energy. It was a much more relieving sight than the other room, where Kitayama was pretty much dead to the world - luckily he was really just out cold.

Closing the door again, Master Yara made his way back to the deck to listen to Fujigaya’s report. He had underestimated them, to have come up with such a daring plan. He also wanted to listen to what Takahashi had to say about what had happened to him and Master Yara’s other two lost - and now found - disciples.

The pirates and bandits brought them to a nearby oasis where a couple of familiar faces were waiting for them. They were united with Miyata and Tamamori, whom Master Takizawa had sent ahead on a different ship and with Master Tsubasa, Eda and Hayashi. Despite being drained from the battle, Master Yara took his time to greet and then reconfirm his bonds with his three lost disciples.

“I’m so glad you’re okay,” he whispered softly.

“Where is Ryota? Is he okay?” Eda asked their master. “He is not with you?”

Smiling, Master Yara replied, “Do not worry. He is at the Ghayi. Master Takizawa assured me he was fine. I sent him ahead.”

“He must be worried sick about you,” Takahashi smiled.

Master Yara laughed softly, “He’s worried sick about all of you, too.” He closed his eyes and sighed. “I was, too. I am glad you were where you were at the time of the attack. I heard about everything from Takahashi and Maachin. I mean, Machida.”

“Oh, he’s told us about you as well, Master Yara,” Eda grinned. “Yone as well.”

“Do I even want to know what you told them,” Master Yara looked at Yonehana from where he was standing. The other just grinned and took a drag from his long pipe.

The village did not exist on any map, nor was it trackable or traceable by any means. Yonehana had seen to that and the technology was their best kept secret. It was essential for their survival afterall. Their security was top-notch and if there were wars on this planet, military would have probably loved to get its hands onto their knowledge. Well, if they ever found out about it that is.

Not a lot of people belonged to their little village. They were a closely knit bunch very much like a family. There had only ever been one person who had left the village and group and lived - Yara Tomoyuki. He kept the secret with his life though. Only a chosen few knew about the village and its people. And all had been sworn to silence. And even when they knew about it, they did not have any way to find it unless the village wanted to be found.

Machida stepped out of his tent and looked at the horizon, the sky behind the sand-dunes. “Yone, I don’t like the color of that sky. Something is telling me that something’s wrong.”

The other male blew a ring of smoke into the air, “Take the boys out and check if your gut feeling tells you to do so?” He smiled. “Go ahead, Maachin. I’ll watch things here.”

“I’ll be back soon,” Machida nodded and then went to round up some of their ‘boys’. All of the youths who lived with them were outcasts, orphans or the children of bandits and pirates - their parents had either been killed or otherwise sacrificed to save them. All of them had a story to tell, a past that had the shadow of death cast on it.

Stepping into one of the tents, he called out, “Tatsumi? I want to go and scout. You guys coming with me?”

“Sure thing!” a group of four was outside in no time, ready to go. They were among the oldest in the village. Machida trusted the quartet with his life. They had been with him for long. He and Yone had taught them, even Yara had still taught them, raised them.

The group of five was just about to round a corner to avoid a rock hidden by the sand, when an explosion rocked the ground and everything was bathed in a sick green light. The sheer force interrupted the energy flow of their vehicles and almost threw them off them.

Once the shock-wave had passed them, they moved on carefully.

“What was that?” Fukuda asked.

Tatsumi frowned, “We better hurry. That didn’t seem good.” He looked at Machida and the older male nodded in confirmation. Then he looked forward and then stepped on a pedal, “Kosshi, Fuku, Matsu, full power!”

They saw the rear end of a ship soon but its sails were torn and the ship itself looked battered and broken but it was still moving, away.

“Fuku, Matsu,” Machida nodded at the ship. “Go scout. We’re checking around here.” Something told him he needed to look here and not on the ship. Something, no, someone was here. They weren’t hostile. Actually he thought he ‘felt’ something familiar.

While the other two sped off to follow the ship, Machida, Tatsumi and Koshioka looked around in the area until they found a piece of cloth sticking out of the sand. Hovering over it with their vehicles, Tatsumi and Koshioka each reached out and pulled.

A huddle of three young males appeared, two looked badly injured or sick and the other had been cowering over them, covering and protecting them.

“Are you guys okay?” Machida asked. He looked at the two and noticed how they were barely moving and seemed barely alive. “You need help.”

The only one of the trio who seemed awake, looked up at him. Machida stopped and got off his vehicle, jumping down to crouch in front of the three gracefully.

“Would- You wouldn’t happen to know Master Yara, would you?” the other asked him. “Because that move just now...”

Machida raised an eyebrow, “Yara?” He looked at the young male, “You know Yara?” Then he snorted, “Wait, ‘Master’ Yara? Are you his servants?” No, that wasn’t like the other. “Or rather, are you his students?”

Things had gone from there. Machida and the four others - Fukuda and Matsuzaki had reported back that there was nothing and nobody left on the ship - brought the three males back to their village to be treated.

On the way, Takahashi - the only one who had still been in any condition to talk - had introduced his two companions as Eda and Hayashi. And he had told Machida about their relationship with Yara. And two other people Machida recognized and knew all too well. Tsubasa and Takizawa. They had been one of the reasons why Yara had left after all. And the only people apart from Yara who were able to find the village on their own.

“You sure are a lucky bunch,” Machida waved for the other four to go ahead as they were carrying the injured males. “We’ll take good care of you here.”

Machida and Yonehana got ready to leave once everything had been sorted out. “We can’t stay here for too long. Or rather, we shouldn’t.”

Master Yara nodded, “I know.” He took a moment to say goodbye to his close friends and promised to come and visit at some point. He also turned to say his farewells to all the others he recognized, lingering around a certain quartet for a while.

When the three masters and the rest got ready to leave, Takahashi stayed back. He smiled at his two friends and master. “Master Yara, Eda, Hayashi...Give my regards to Ryota. I won’t be coming back with you guys,” he smiled.

“Ryu?” Hayashi looked at the taller male. “Why?”

“I feel like my place is here,” Takahashi replied. “I love you guys and everything but something tells me that I should be here. And Master Yara taught us to trust in those feelings, right?” He looked over to where Yonehana was giving him a salute.

Master Yara nodded, “Indeed I did.” He looked at Takahashi. “If this is what you want to do, I will respect your decision. Bear in mind though that you’re always welcome to come for a visit, should the sands or the waters ever wash you that way. I will thus not dissolve my bond with you. If you ever need me, I will be there.”

Machida and Yonehana, walked up to stand behind Takahashi grinned, “Same goes for you, Lion Cub. You made a promise. This time come for a visit. Even Takizawa and Tsubasa have been around more often than you have.”

Laughing softly, he nodded at the two, “I promise. And I keep promises.” Yamamoto’s little charm became visible on his wrist when his clothes shifted.

Yes, he kept his promises. And he would make good of this one particular promise soon.
