A/N: *looks at nikaplotbunny* So yeah, after Kaori's and Kazu's POV, Danno wanted to be written, too. So here you go. Also dedicated to snowqueenofhoth. Enjoy! ♥

Most people would probably not understand their relationship. Especially people who didn’t know them. And that probably included about 95% of BEAST. Of course all the members knew them but they didn’t really -know- them.

Kaori meant a lot to him, a whole lot. She was his girlfriend but also his best friend and his confidante. She would know what was going on inside of him, often better than he himself did. And she never had to ask. Just one look would be enough, one look, one touch, to know, to understand and to convey her thoughts and her feelings to him in return.

Her slender, almost petite fingers looked so small, fragile next to his. And yet her touch held more power than Danno himself could ever think of wielding.

Yes, he was powerful and he didn’t deny that he was in terms of brute force, in terms of physical strength. But Kaori had what he considered to be true strength. Strength of the heart. In addition to the considerable physical abilities that she had. Sometimes he envied her for that. Sometimes Danno wished, he could be the same, even if it were just to return the favor.

Just one touch would make things right sometimes. Just one, single touch would shove the burden off his shoulders, relieve him of it. Danno would never be able to put into words just how amazing Kaori was. And he wouldn’t be able to tell anyone just how Kaori did it either.

“Hide,” her voice was soft but he could hear it even across the room.

Turning, he looked over to the little elevated part where Kaori was rising from her seat on the old sofa. She had her hands in her coat pockets and Danno knew that despite seeming calm and composed, she was hiding her balled fists from him. He understood. Nobody liked to see their beloved go out to fight. Even if she trusted him to always come back victorious.

Giving her a meaningful look and a short nod, Danno then continued on his way.

He couldn’t just sit back and do nothing while those STP bastards were destroying everything they had painfully established in the past couple of years.

Danno wouldn’t surrender the city without a fight. Not that he had any intention of surrendering anything to that bunch of ruleless hooligans.

A few hours later, he opened his eyes again and what he saw, was the sterile white ceiling of a hospital room. He bolted up immediately, a bad idea since it made a hot, sharp pain shoot through his neck and shoulder.

“Hide!” a hand was there, on his neck, immediately and he turned slowly to see Kaori standing next to the bed, wearing an expression that Danno vowed there and then, to never ever let appear on her face again. “Hide,” she echoed, softer this time.

“Danno-san!” Kazu was there as well, still wearing a loose, grey tracksuit and with his injuries all bandaged up. “What happened?”

Kaori was still touching the bruise on his neck and she was the one who spoke up, “There were two. When it was meant to be only one. He struck you down from behind.” She ran a hand through his hair gently, at the back of his neck. “Vile, honorless bastards!” Danno could feel a tremor go through her body and he looked up at her face.

He could feel, more than see, her contained rage.

Quickly and subtly, he motioned for Kazu to leave them alone and the other did so and closed the door behind himself to give them as much privacy as he could.

Once the door fell shut, Danno grabbed Kaori’s other wrist and pulled her down to sit on his bed. Wrapping his arms around her from behind, he rested his forehead against her shoulder, buried his face in the soft fur of her coat.

She put her hands over his and Danno felt her stroking the back of his hand with her thumb gently as she spoke. “You’re not going to forgive them either, right? You’re going to make sure they will disappear from our city for good.” Their city. Yes, Danno would protect their city and if he had to fight his way through every single one of those goons.

Danno didn’t say anything but he tightened his hold on her a little to express his answer.

They broke their hug and Danno got out of the bed and put his clothes back on. This wouldn’t keep him down for long. Couldn’t keep him down for long.

He left the hospital with Kaori in tow. Of course they weren’t going to march up to the enemy like that. No, Danno needed some time to regroup, rethink first.

Out in the streets, he saw angry and unsatisfied members of Gokurakucho and BEAST wandering about. No, he didn’t have a lot of time but he would be damned if he rushed straight into things. Not even that idiot Hiro would do that. Maybe.

Kiriki would most likely make his move soon. With Gokurakucho on edge after their main forces had been struck down. BEAST wasn’t faring any better with their front-lines mowed down and NIGHTS would be of no use at all - most likely. Well, they’d have to make do with what they had left. He knew that Kazu was good to go, the other reliable member of BEAST still standing was Harada. That would have to be enough.

It wasn’t like Danno didn’t have any faith in the rest of BEAST but they had lost a lot of comrades and members in the last couple of weeks, both due to injury or just betrayal. Some were easy to sway, some would just think safety first and go with whoever they thought was the stronger party, stronger team at the time.

Of course this had people rather hot-headed. And he wouldn’t let a bunch of guys, blind with rage, rush into this. They would be baited too easily by the other side, who would know how to make use of the tempers. No, he needed people there who wouldn’t suddenly turn on him in the middle of the fight. And who would be able to see things through to the bitter end.

He moved his head a little and winced. That Sasaki - or however he was called - had pulled a number on him. And the former leader of STP hadn’t been a joke either. One at a time he could have handled without a problem for sure but having to go against one and then being ambushed by the other, there was no one who would have walked away from that completely unscathed. Danno wished he could do this when he was in possession of his full strength but he’d have to make do with this.

At least he wasn’t alone. This wasn’t personal, nor was it just an issue for BEAST, this was an issue for the whole city and every single team now.

When he decided to leave, he took a detour through the main hall because he knew Kaori would be sitting there. She would be here, waiting.

Looking at her, he lingered in his spot for longer than he usually did. It was to show her that he was going to keep his word. That this time, he would be back here, by his own strength and he would come back victorious.

She sent him off with her trust and Danno clenched his fist. He wouldn’t disappoint that trust.

“Kazu.”

“Yes.”

“Harada.”

“Danno-san.”

He looked forward, “This is do or die. If we fail, we’re not coming back. We won’t have a place to come back to because BEAST will have ceased to exist.”

Kazu fell into step behind him, “We won’t let that happen.”

“We’ll show them that BEAST is supreme,” Harada agreed.

Danno grunted his acknowledgement and led them towards the abandoned school that the STP bunch had chosen as their base.

As expected, Kiriki had made his move. A little different than Danno had expected but well the other had been a wildcard ever since he had come to their city. “No holding back. We’re going to destroy STP,” Danno announced, taking over the lead as the strongest three of Hiroshima stood there, united by their common enemy. Quite a historical moment.

Along with his two most trusted men, Danno advanced through the rows of STP quickly, making their way towards the building in which the ‘final boss’ was waiting for them. He made it inside with Kiriki and Hiro following suit soon after. Harada and Kazu had stayed behind to make sure their backs would be free. Of course Danno knew that there would be more men waiting inside the building - Sasaki wouldn’t let them advance so easily - but at least it would mean that there would be no sudden influx of forces from the outside.

He and Kiriki left Hiro to deal with one of the STP generals - after the NIGHTS leader had once again displayed his incredible narcissism and in the same sentence, mildly insulted both Danno and the Gokurakucho leader.

The other would be able to deal with this much. Danno didn’t regard the NIGHTS leader too highly but he knew not to underestimate the other either. After all he had fought Hiro before (and won, of course). So he knew for the other’s strength. As the one with the worst injuries among the three of them, this was as much as Hiro would likely be able to do though and Danno knew that the other must know that as well.

For the same reason, he told Kiriki to go ahead and fight Sasaki. Danno knew that in his current condition he wouldn’t stand a chance against the untouched leader of STP. And Kiriki was the only one who wasn’t suffering from previous injuries. He would take care of the rest, would beat sense into every last member of STP who would get in his way.

Things worked out just as planned and he kept his promise to Kaori, his vow.

Danno returned to the BEAST lair with his head held high and with peace once again established in Hiroshima. He returned to a crowd of cheering members, with their faiths restored, their loyalty once more confirmed.

Omake:

They were coming back from Osaka, from Yutaka’s boxing match, when they ran into a rather happy looking couple around the station. Kaori spotted them first and cooed softly, “Aw, isn’t that cute? I wonder if Kiriki will develop a school uniform kink.” She chuckled. “Seeing her wear it makes me feel a little nostalgic.”

“Wah, it’s Kaori-san! And Danno-san,” Kumi bowed to them and Kiriki gave them nods of acknowledgement as well.

“Woah, woah, what a sight! The prick actually has a romantic side? I am so shocked,” a new voice joined them and Danno could feel his eyebrow twitch in annoyance.

“Well, if it isn’t NIGHTS’ new leader,” Danno acknowledged and then nodded his greetings to Erika, ignoring a very indignant looking Hiro next to her. He had to suppress a grin there.

Erika smiled at him, “You’re so charming, Danno-san. I absolutely understand what Kaori sees in you.” She looked at her own companion, “Ne, Hiro, go buy me a drink? I don’t want any of the stuff from back at the club. That’s why I took you out for a walk.”

“But-”

“Yes?” her tone grew a little more dangerous.

Hiro seemed to shrink to kiddie-size and replied quietly, “On my way” before dashing off.

Danno had to hide his amusement behind his hand and a fake cough and Kaori gave him a rather amused look before she turned back to the other couple. “You look cute in your uniform, Kumi. I hope Kiriki has assured you of the same thing.”

“It does look good on you! And it brings back memories,” Erika agreed.

Kumi blushed and thanked the other two. The girls pulled her away a little bit to talk amongst themselves. Danno just crossed his arms and waited patiently, while Kiriki looked a little lost and kept looking back and forth between the group of three and Danno.

“Danno-kun, is this okay? I mean, you must have wanted to be with Kaori-san and-” he was rambling just a little bit.

“Kiriki,” Danno’s voice was quiet but firm. “This is the change you brought about in this city. A change of the heart. Maybe a much needed one.” He acknowledged. Then, in a lighter, more bemused tone he added, “So you should reap what you sowed.”

“Huh?”

The girls came back, Kaori having one arm draped around Kumi’s shoulders as she guided her back, Erika was on Kumi’s other side. They seemed to be done with whatever they had had to discuss in private and out of the boys’ earshot but the talk was continuing.

“Well now you know. If anything comes up, just come to me and we’ll figure out the details. Ah, of course you can come and just hang out, too. I’m sure the other girls will be happy if you do. Especially Mika. You guys are the closest in terms of age. Oh and for future dates, definitely get some advice from Kaori. She knows how to make and keep your man happy,” Erika nudged Kumi in the side and Kaori gave the youngest girl a very meaningful smile.

Kiriki blinked at the girls and then shot a look at Danno, who just gave him a very meaningful smirk and brief eyebrow-wiggle in return that seemed to say something along the lines of, “Oh yeah” or “Oh yes she does”. Danno watched in mild amusement as Kiriki seemed to swallow really hard and looked like he was getting a little hot in that leather jacket of his.

“Well, we’ll be off then,” Kaori waved and looked up at Danno. He nodded and put his arm around her, resting his hand on her hip as he pulled her close - well aware that the other three had a pretty good view of that.

As if that wasn’t enough mockery, he chose the moment of Hiro’s return to pull his girlfriend in for a kiss, that had Kiriki blushing like a tomato, Kumi hiding her eyes behind her hands, Erika coughing in slight embarrassment and Hiro raise an eyebrow in respect. The kiss didn’t last for too long - the sound of the next train arriving was their cue to leave. And as much as the others’ hilarious reactions had amused him, he didn’t fancy being seen by anyone else.

When they were two blocks down, Kaori told him, “You’re mean, Hide.”

“You’re laughing,” he pointed out.

“I didn’t say it was bad,” Kaori wrapped her arm back around Danno, under his coat. “So are you going to let me make you a happy man tonight?”

“You knew one block ago that we’re going to my place already,” was his simple reply.

Danno had moments, moments of cheesiness but he kept those to himself. He knew Kaori had decoded the true meaning from behind his spoken words. He knew because her smile had softened ever so slightly and her hand had brushed his flank gently.

She knew that Danno had meant to say that he was already a very, very happy man.
