Up too late, again. I blame Richard Armitage.

Just finished watching series 2 of Robin Hood
and am stunned. They actually killed of Marian? Like, dead and buried? Not a dream? DEAD? Who is Robin Hood without Marian? I suppose that's what we will discover in series 3, if the BBC announcer is to be believed ("Robin Hood will return to BBC1...").

I have to say, though, I figured it would be Guy who killed her, or would at least get really, really close. Don't get me wrong, Guy is still my favorite character on the show. Richard Armitage is hot, of course, but his Guy is also so layered, so complicated. I was rooting for him to choose to be a man Marian could love; the two of them had so much more chemistry than Robin/Marian, in my opinion. But, because we saw Guy's inner torment, his desire for love/acceptance battling his desire for power/position, even his love for Marian vs. his love for the Sheriff, once Guy found out that Marian loved Robin - and it was only a matter of time - that would have to snap his last remaining tie to rational thought. It would be the ultimate betrayal. Really, how else could a man like that react than "if I can't have you, no one can"? It is a testament to how well Armitage played his character, and Lucy Griffiths played Marian, that I wanted so much for a different outcome. I mean, really, Guy has done some horrible things, yet I still hoped for redemption. Even now, the pain in his eyes as Marian taunted (yes, taunted) him with her love for Robin, as he drove in the sword, as he realized what he'd done...I can almost forgive him. Almost.

So Marian is dead and, it would appear, King Richard is on his way home. What's left for series 3?

hot brits, robin hood
