Okay, so I promised you a brief dissertation on Tegan and Sara, but I haven’t been able to wrap my mind around everything yet. I find it hard to capture my mood in words sometimes.
Friday afternoon Kandis picked Toya and I up from school and we went to Decatur to get their eyebrows done. Afterward we headed toward Athens. The trip didn’t take long at all, and Kandis’ mix CD kept us occupied. We arrived in Athens at 4:30 and parked next to the 40 Watt Club, where Tegan and Sara would perform. There was no line outside the club, and no one waiting, except for a few young girls sitting on the sidewalk near a tree. They looked like they were in highschool, and definitely looked as if they were there for the concert. We bought Toya a ticket and then regrouped, trying to figure out how we would occupy the next 41/2 hours. We debated on getting tattoos due to the extreme closeness of a tattoo parlor next door to the club. But, no. We went to a diner a few doors down and Kandis immediately pointed out that I would like it because two of my most favorite dishes were on the menu: Kool-Aid and carrot cake. The Kool-Aid was actually pretty good, I’m impressed with Athens’ quality of the “juice.” After we finished eating we had about four more hours to wait, so we made friends with the kids by the tree. It turns out they caught Greyhound and rode up from South Florida. So we watched out for each other’s spots in “line” (that wasn’t too hard seeing as how we were the only people there). After chatting for a few moments Tegan and Sara began their soundcheck, and every few moments someone would open the club door and we could see the band inside. We acted like groupies.
Okay, I stepped away from my computer for a moment, came back, and realized how incredibly boring this entry is. So onto the point!
Our friends chatted with Sara while I was getting ice cream. Kandis took a picture with Sara and Tegan while I was with Kevin getting a sandwich. But I’m not jealous.
Around 8:30 the line started to build up for the concert (which is funny since we got there at 4:30.. but I'm glad we did). Kandis’ friend Anna arrived. Kat arrived. We were in the front of the line (as our loser asses damn well should’ve been). It was time to go inside. We bought t-shirts and secured our spots right in front of the stage. I made sure to be right in front of Tegan’s microphone. The opening acts were okay, I won’t go into them. Oh, except for the fact that the lead singer from Communique slung his sweat on my arm. That is so uncute. Luckily Tegan and Sara don’t sweat at all.
Anyway, next came Tegan and Sara. But before they came on stage Toya and I took a few moments to flirt with one of their roadies who was incredibly hot. But, back to Tegan and Sara. They came out and they were incredible. They didn’t banter as much as I’ve seen them do in the past, but they were very focused on the music. They sang a great combination of old and new songs. At one point Tegan turned her back on the audience to grab another guitar and blessed the audience with a view of the coolest shirt ever. The back of her t-shirt read “King Kong died for our sins.” *Laughter* The music was great. Tegan was aggressive and hot and Sara was cool and sweet and they put on the best show that I’ve seen in forever. I love them.
After the show I discovered this ever-frustrating combination of words: POLISH SAUSAGE.
Good times.
But more good times to come. Road trip to Kansas. July 28-July 31. Kandis. Toya. Anna. Me. (Kevin I won’t hold it against you that you’re meeting us there).
Later youngsters.
