Short Nathan story. Sequel to the Secret of Flying.
Falling
He should have let Peter fall.
But what sort of big brother would he be if he did that?
Big brothers caught their brothers when they fell. This is what he had always done. From the time that they were little and Peter needed help with little problems to when Peter lept off of buildings to prove that he could fly.
Nathan looked out for Peter.
He had to. Without Peter he wouldn't have his moral center. Peter kept him on the straight and narrow.
Peter was everything to him. Made life worth living.
Nathan and Peter Petrelli.
He should have let Peter fall, but he would have rather died than do that.
So, instead, he fell when Peter pushed him away.
He supposed he should have seen it coming. Sometime, Peter would need to do something on his own, without his big brother. Sometime he would have to grow up.
In a way, Nathan couldn't have been happier to see Peter push him away in such a situation. He was being the hero he always wanted to be. Saving others.
And then, Peter caught him.
Because sometimes little brothers stopped their big ones from falling.
