I know I haven't talked about a drama on here in ages, and this isn't for a particularly brilliant drama, but I feel like I need to get it out here so I don't blabber on to other people about my random thoughts.
This drama is about Nakama Yukie's character Kinoshita Rin, who works at a publishing company and hasn't had a boyfriend in 8 years. But she doesn't care. Her parents died in a fire many years ago and ever since then she has been caring for her younger siblings of junior high school and high school age. She is incredibly serious about her work and is often seen scolding and being strict on others around her, thus making her unpopular with her coworkers, seniors or juniors. Her boss keeps muttering phrases like "this is why women are no good" and "you need to be more feminine", which don't help matters any. A new worker Takahashi (Yuki Jutta) zooms out of the office as soon as his time is up and keeps making mistakes, leaving his charge Kinoshita responsible. She relies only on herself for everything but realizes soon that perhaps she will need help from others sometimes.
Aizawa Nanako (Ryo) is a very successful PR exec who makes enough money on her own to live in a large apartment. She's also very confident and wears expensive brand clothing. She is happy with her current life but she feels like perhaps there's something wrong with just dating a bunch of random men and relying on solely herself to survive. She used to be happy in her freedom, but thought about the loneliness that comes along with relying only on herself and feels like love creates a bond that friends, family, and work cannot feel. After being dumped by a younger man who she thought she might marry for a younger woman made her realize that she wants a partner who can understand her, and with whom they can support each other and complement each other. Her character might fall into the whole "thought I didn't want romance but now I do" typical field, but we'll see how her character develops in later episodes.
There's not too much on the third lady Ichikawa Mikako yet. The series starts with her holding a divorce party to celebrate living on their own and being separate from her ex-husband. Apparently her ex-husband cheated on her. She's really proper and I'm not quite sure yet if she's interested in finding a partner for herself.
Matsumoto Naoya (Sasaki Kuranosuke) looks on paper to be the perfect man with looks, money, and a great job as a dentist. His downfall however is judging all women by the same criteria--that they all prefer exquisite cuisine, love to dress up formally, and so on. He has a set of rules that he feels that women should go by. However when he meets Rin who is unapologetically how she is (they go to a French restaurant and she gets beer instead of champagne, and refuses to accept Matsumoto ordering for her things that he thinks women should like). He has problems with Rin at first and falters a bit in his bet with the other men that they can definitely "break" Rin's renai neet-ness. He meets her by chance one day and they have fun playing table tennis and eating ramen at a ramen stand. When he eases up his expectations of how a woman should act he realizes that he might be quite compatible with her otherwise and finds himself falling for her...
Tada Kota (Tanaka Yuji) is a flavorist (makes flavors for food products) and is short and not conventionally handsome. He is awkward around females and sends bouquets of flowers to Rin's office when she continuously sends them back. He is also very kind and when he loosens up his nervousness I have a feeling he could be a very sweet guy. This might be a fruitless hope but I'm hoping he would hook up with Nanako since she went to a dating service and found 97% compatibility with each other on paper when the worker ran her name through the computer system. We will see though.
Makino Shunpei (Nagayama Kento<--Eita's brother!) is a freeter who plays around with women and is afraid of falling deep into love with them. He seems to be playing around with Rin and is the first one to kiss her after 8 years of no boyfriend. What's interesting though is that this character kind of opens Rin up and teaches her not to be so serious all of the time. While he doesn't seem to be that serious quite yet about Rin, it seems like Rin might be the most attracted to him. Matsumoto might be the end game guy, but right now at least Rin seems to be paying the most attention/have the most delusional fantasies regarding Shunpei. Plus the whole idea of older woman/younger man is pretty cool too!
What it seemed at first was that this drama would just be about finding Rin romance and making her more "womanlike", but I'm hoping that this will prove me wrong. I won't hold high hopes, but it seems like the men also learn from Rin in turn, and while she may learn to soften up a bit, I hope she still retains her toughness. I dunno many Japanese dramas start off with potential, but then lose that potential somewhere along the way, so we will see. Sorry about all of the blabbering XD
BTW I think Risou no Musuko is hilarious. LOL
