Okay no joke, Ouran Koukou Host Club is one of my favorite anime and a year or so ago (make that 3 years ago o.o) I recall making an Eito cast list. So I will be borrowing from that old post and adding the confirmed cast members for the new drama. BTW is there a community for this jdrama? XD
The basic concept of the manga/anime is that there's 6 pretty boys who function as a high school version of a host club, catering to the females at this elite rich school where everyone knows someone and has distinguished family ties. Haruhi, the heroine, is a commoner, a person selected to the school on scholarship. The manga can be considered a parody of shoujo manga (while being one itself) and plays out the story when she meets these guys.
From left to right: Mori, Honey, Kyouya, Tamaki, Kaoru, Hikaru
(warning: maybe some very slight anime spoilers but not major ones)
Haruhi:
Kawaguchi Haruna
Haruhi is a smart kid who's also rather monotone and blunt. She is also quite oblivious to how others feel about her. She doesn't care about the boy/girl gender distinction and has a dry sense of humor. She's more of an anti-heroine, which is why she is one of my favorite characters <3
Kawaguchi Haruna is probably more famously known from her roles as the girl with the streaks in her hair and side ponytail and um (forgot the name of that kendo stick) from Yankee-kun to Megane-chan and also as Kitano Kii's best friend who also had a crush on Kiriyama in Nagareboshi. She's cute so I approve!!
Tamaki:
Yamamoto Yusuke
Tamaki is the main character opposite Haruhi. He's the president of the Host Club and is the person who single handedly brought all of the Host Club members together. Tamaki is the most popular member and about 75% of their female clients choose him as their host. Tamaki on the surface is seen as stupid, impulsive, absent-minded, and a little overzealous. The other members like to make fun of him and Haruhi is at first put off by him. But as you get to know Tamaki better, you see that he is a caring, thoughtful, warm, affectionate, and an amazing leader. All of the Host Club, including Haruhi, respect and admire him a lot, because he's had a really rough past, but is still kind, even though he is still affected by his problems to this day. He is the heart of the club. Tamaki is also half-French, so I wonder how they may change Yamamoto's looks...
Yamamoto Yusuke is pretty well-known at this point so I won't talk too much about him but he shot to fame as "ghost boy" Kayashima in the Hana Kimi jdrama. Now he's been in numerous dramas and as of late the movie Paradise Kiss :)
Kyouya:
OMG YOU GUYS IT'S DAITO SHUNSUKE
Kyouya is seen as the "shadow king" of the group because even though Tamaki gets the glory, Kyouya works behind the scenes--organizing their business/financial matters. He's cold and manipulative, and claims that everything he does is for a profit. You can see little cracks in his character though that shows that he really cares for Tamaki. This character is entirely "moe" because he's the "cool" one, so I can't wait to see Daito Shunsuke as him O.O
Daito Shunsuke was also in the original Hana Kimi jdrama as Sano's younger brother Shin. His shot to popularity though probably happened through the drama Tumbling where he played the kind delinquent (lol). I hope he wears glasses!!!
The twins:
The crazy and mischievous Hitachiin twins--also my favorite pair :D They are never seen without each other. They play pranks on others constantly and are very dependent on each other. They also like to play on the "brotherly love" theme, where they are overly affectionate with each other and act in a way that can be construed as "twincest". They were wrapped up in their own little world until a certain person entered their lives.
Hikaru:
Takagi Shinpei
Hikaru is the older of the twins. He's more brash, impulsive, immature, and doesn't really know how to control his strong emotions. He can be quite childish and loves to mastermind the pranks that he and his twin love to pull on others. He's also my favorite character (next to Haruhi) :D:D Later on in the manga he starts to understand himself better and starts to be more thoughtful of others, moving away from his initially selfish tendencies. He matures a lot throughout the manga and it was really great to see <3<3
Kaoru:
Takagi Manpei
Kaoru is the younger of the twins. He is a prankster and a jokester just like Hikaru, but he is seen as the more mature, introspective, and contemplative of the two. He is also very observant. He points out things to Hikaru that he doesn't realize himself and helps Hikaru learn more about himself and go through the maturation process. Hikaru relies on Kaoru a lot as his foundation, but on the other hand, Kaoru relies on Hikaru a lot as a leader and the stronger one of the two.
Both of the twins are probably most well-known as the twin evil butlers in Mei-chan no Shitsuji, but beyond that, I don't know much about them. However fear not, older fans, for they were born in 85 I think LOL
Honey and Mori:
These are the two eldest members of the Host Club. Both of their families have been connected to each other for a very long time. Mori's ancestors have served Honey's ancestors for years. Even though the servant/master relationship has officially ended, Mori still likes to make it his duty to care for Honey and help him out whenever he's in need. They adore each other a lot and have a lot of history together.
Honey:
Chiba Yudai
Haninozuka, also known as "Honey", is the sweet, adorable, cute member of the group. But don't let his looks deceive you. He is also incredibly good at martial arts and can kick anyone's ass if he needed to. He's also very observant and spends much of his time discussing with Mori what's going on within the group. He's also very reliable and a the twins turn to him a lot when they're depressed. He's the "loli-shota" type of the group, who looks very young and cute for his age--you'd never guess he was the eldest. But when he gets down to business, you can see the maturity in him. He's also very kind and addresses everyone by a nickname, adding "-chan" as the suffix XD
There's not much on Chiba Yudai in DramaWiki but I know he was in one of those superhero tokusatsu, so he's kind of known for that. Beyond that I don't know much. He has a lot on his Japanese Wiki page but I confess I didn't read it lol
Mori:
Nakamura Masaya
Mori is the tallest member of the group and also the most quiet. He likes to sit back and absorb his surroundings. He also apparently likes small, cute things and does adorable things like befriend a little chick and raccoon. He's quite skilled at martial arts and doesn't say much, but is very reliable. He is seen as "not doing too many unnecessary things". He is also the other person the twins go to when in trouble. He knows Honey very well and takes good care of Honey when he's feeling weak or has problems. He also wordlessly comes to the aid of others, such as to pull Haruhi from Tamaki when Tamaki was being overly affectionate and Haruhi called for his help XD
...don't know much about him either. But this is good since I can discover new actors through this! Plus he's from Osaka! EDIT: He's the one who married Yaguchi Mari! I knew I recalled that name somehow! Yeah and he's super tall--192cm XD
Nekozawa:
Ryusei Ryo
Nekozawa is the president of the Dark Magic club and creepily shows up at random moments in the anime. Nekozawa is also very afraid of bright lights and if the twins happened to shine a bright light on him, he'd freak out and run away. Underneath the cloak, however, lies the appearance of a prince. He's actually very regal looking and has a cute little sister who used to be afraid of him but now adores him.
Ryusei Ryo was in Hammer Session and Sunao ni Narenakute but I don't really remember him. I'll have to look at the dramas again to see...
Characters not officially announced yet (if they will even exist):
Ranka:
Ranka is Haruhi's father and is a crossdresser. She is also overly affectionate towards Haruhi, just like Tamaki. The rest of the Host Club understood how Haruhi could stand Tamaki by meeting Haruhi's dad.
Renge:
She's such a memorable presence in the Ouran series. She's the otaku extraordinaire who loves playing video games (especially role playing love simulation ones) and is very insane. She marks her entrance in the anime by spiraling up this industrial screw-looking contraption while laughing "ohohohoho". She also gives herself the title of Manager for the Host Club, placing them into these stereotypical characters (like Tamaki as the "lonely prince") and also has a massive crush on Kyouya because he resembles one of the guys from her games.
Kasanoda:
Kasanoda is the heir to the yakuza family. He's got a frightening face and just with a glance can scare anybody away. However, he's got a heart of gold and really cares for others. He also tried to befriend a small animal (I think a kitten or something) but it looked at his face and got frightened and ran away XD One funny scene is when the twins, by Tamaki's orders, dress Kasanoda up in a "hip" way, with dreadlocks and sunglasses. However, he ended up just looking creepier. He also ends up liking Haruhi, but it's definitely unrequited. Kasanoda is introduced when he wants to be Mori's apprentice, because apparently Mori has a similar stoic personality but people seem to flock to him XD
Arai:
Arai is Haruhi's friend back from middle school. They hung out alot and got along pretty well, and he ended up developing feelings for her. However, Haruhi being as dense as she is, she didn't realize that Arai was confessing to her and rejected him without realizing exactly what was going on. He's a very kind and sweet guy--he plays soccer I think. The twins were saying that he's like the overlooked side player who will never get noticed by the heroine. When he met up with Haruhi briefly they were chatting a bit, and even Tamaki got along well with him. But Hikaru was incredibly jealous and didn't know why himself.

Anyways I'm pretty excited about the jdrama and want to see how it'll end up. Unfortunately it'll be after my bedtime so I'll have to see whether I'm willing to sacrifice sleep to watch it XD This is just like how I was with Hana Kimi back in the day! This is also the longest post I've had in a loooong time!
So what do you guys think? What other dramas do you want to see this summer?
