I was wondering why I felt so proud of myself for surviving 3-days of anime north...then I realized because the last time I stayed more than two days was over 4 years ago. So...huzzah!
There are some benefits to going to both fan expo and anime north over the years. After having 10+ cons under my crotch...does that make me a "con veteran"? Because I sure as hell don't feel like one. :P
But there are pros, and most importantly, it helps my wallet, amongst other things.
This AN was the first time I spent....merely 30 minutes in total in loot-central. And 98% of that time was at nominoichi. That's probably what helped me keep my sanity. Getting the shopping out of the way on day one...then staying the fuck away from the really con-hot spots.
I probably also went to more panels this time than in the past. Six panels, one dance, one heavy gaming session, another taste session. And enough time to great a breather in.
I actually think...this is the first time the game-vibes were...pretty excellent. Hosted a 16-player halo game yesterday for 2.5 hours and it was a blast. Felt like I was gaming with the guys from years past. No bullshit sexism, no nothing. It sucks in the fps-realm that's so fucking rare to find as a female. Really. I actually....can't recall off the bat the last time I experienced that with strangers. Must be at least 4 years (then again never had halo setups at previous AN).
Like fan expo fps tournaments just get me too fucking antsy. Performance anxiety and all that shit...it arguably permeates the fps-genre the most.
The J rave was pretty darn fun, always inclusive and no care to adhere to norms, which is always nice.
All in all, a great time. Meet some cool people, made friends, learned some great tips and motivation, experienced new things, and got some great loot for a steal.
All without having any panic attacks or meltdowns...which is probably a record. So yay for find tuning my sensitivity and management of environment. Although to be honest...fan expo is really where I have the most trouble. Being all in one building means....so fucking clustered...add bottlenecking and over capacity and...ughh.....punch some people in the back of their head please.
But for AN I definitely I wasn't hanging around much outside for photo ops, or in the con hot-spot...it may have been more unconventional in how I handled the con...but after all these years, it works for me. And I'm happy with that.
I know some of the things I'd want to do for next year to make my experience better, but yeah...I quite enjoyed it....even if I ended up beyond exhausted once I left.
Although there's been a lot of back smack regarding staff at this an...and complaining that I completely understand...I still thought it was pretty smoothly organize, albeit a little shaky at parts. But...you just gotta roll with dem punches, y'know?
We'll see about fan expo. I'm disappointed in how they handled last years crowd problem...mooooo
