Chapter 1 - Capture the Cyphronian
“We will be arriving at Cyphron in one hour and I want you to tell the crew everything you know about the species,” said the captain, Jihoon, to Yunho. He was in the control room, eyeing the planet on the display screen with anticipation. He had been to the planet when he was just starting out and those creatures had killed his entire crew. He had barely made it out of the planet alive, stowing away upon another ship that thankfully, had not departed. “I want everyone to be aware of what we’re getting into. I don’t want any casualties if possible. We just need to catch one and get out. Make it possible, Jung.”
“Yes, sir,” acknowledged Yunho. He left the control room and leaned against the hallway wall, letting out a sigh. He knew that having no casualties would really be impossible. They were going to try and capture one of the ferocious Cyphronians. He knew that it was not going to go well.
Why were they trying to capture a Cyphronian? Those creatures had a legend to them. It was said that something of theirs could cure any illness or wound. What it was that healed everything was still a mystery, the inscription being scratched out to elude everyone. Therefore, many people had been trying to uncover this secret, but it was no use. The Cyphronians were smart and would never be captured. They would rather kill themselves before being caged away.
However, Yunho did not want any of the Cyphronians to die. Those creatures were special to him. His father had done so much research on them and the planet. In fact, he was the one that wrote the book on them that Yunho read so often. The man had died on Cyphron and everyone was certain the creatures he cared so much for had killed him, but Yunho had a feeling that he had died by other means. The way he spoke about them left no room for doubt in Yunho’s mind that his father had been accepted by the Cyphronians. Though they did not treat him as their own, he was not someone that they would injure in any way. In fact, he wondered if his father was still alive, still wandering the planet he loved so much.
Yunho walked back to his room and saw Changmin sifting through his book. He eyed the younger man and could see a questionable expression on the lad’s face. It was as though he was frightened and angry at the same time.
“Enjoying the book?” asked Yunho and Changmin was startled, dropping the book to the couch.
“Sorry, I just wanted to know what it was about,” said the young man rather quickly with a hint of nervousness in his voice.
“It’s alright,” assured Yunho. “I’m not mad or anything, but you looked like you were? Don’t like the Cyphronians?”
“They’re demons,” said Changmin without holding any hatred back. “They took my parents away. They’re cold-blooded demons.”
“And what are you when you eat a slaughtered pig?” asked Yunho in a calming tone. “I know it may seem different, but any animal you eat also had a family. You may not see it that way, but it is. You’re food source to them, nothing more. It’s not like they killed anyone for sport. That’s something only special to our kind.”
Changmin looked to the ground unsure of what to say. He knew that Yunho spoke the truth, but it was unwanted. He did not care if the Cyphronians ate his parents for food supplies. They were his parents!
“I’ll never forgive them,” declared Changmin.
“And you’re welcome to challenge any Cyphronian to fight of revenge,” said Yunho. “No one will judge you. Anyone would want to get back at the ones whole stole something so precious.”
“You don’t,” said Changmin.
“That’s because I don’t think they killed my father,” stated Yunho. “I think it was something else. In fact, I think that he may even still be alive. I want to see them all. I want to study them like my father. If I can ask one thing from you, Changmin, don’t harm anyone that doesn’t try to harm you. Believe me; you won’t feel better if you kill someone that isn’t trying to hurt you.”
“Alright,” agreed Changmin and he quickly took his leave to think long and hard about their conversation.
Yunho settled himself back down on the couch and picked up his father’s book, scanning the blank cover. His father had said that there was no picture that was good enough for the cover, nor any title that could capture the beauty of the planet; therefore, he kept it a blank slate. He had only ever heard of descriptions, only wanting to see the planet for the first time with his own eyes like his father. Frankly, he did not even know what the Cyphronians looked like. His father had given him so much description that he could already visualize what they would look like and he was so excited to see them in the flesh.

“Everyone, make sure you have your weapons ready,” warned Yunho to the collected crew. “Do not fire at a Cyphronian that does not attack you. They will not attack you unless they think you mean harm. We will calmly land there and try not to make any disturbances.”
“Until we capture one of those fuckers…,” grumbled a crew member who instantly received a glare from Yunho.
“You will not harm the race,” commanded Yunho powerfully. “We are visitors on their planet. What we’re doing there is already uncalled for. We’re the ones that want to capture one of them. Please, all I ask is that you all treat them with respect.”
“Yes, sir,” the crowd chorused, a few remaining silent.

It was just as his father said, absolutely gorgeous.
“Wow,” voiced Yunho softly as he stepped off the ship.
Giant, violet birds were chirping, flying gracefully through the air. He could already hear the crashing of the waterfalls nearby. The double crescent moons were still in sight as the sun shone down on the crew. The air was crisp, nothing like their polluted planet. It was, in all, absolutely amazing. Yes, this was the planet that humans could not wait to take over after they managed to get rid of the Cyphronians.
“Enough gaping, boys,” the captain ordered, last to leave the ship. “They’re probably already watching us. Be on guard.”
Yunho rolled his eyes with a sigh and walked off. He did have a gun, but the safety was turned on and he was going to try to keep it that way. As he wandered away from the crew, he was happy to finally find the waterfalls that he was itching to see. He looked up to try and see the top, but the water disappeared right into the clouds.
“This is amazing!” he cheered to himself. He bent down in front of the pool and cupped his hands together beneath the water. He brought his hands up, letting the water seep through the cracks between his fingers. It glimmered like crystals, so pure to touch.
A shriek erupted and Yunho placed his hand over his pistol, getting to his feet in a flash. His ears heard it once more and he looked up to the massive trees to see an eagle-like bird that caused the powerful shriek. Yunho let a small chuckle pass through his lips and let go of his pistol. He turned back to the waterfall and came face to face with another man.
The one before him had lynx ears poking out of his messy raven hair. His eyes were doe-like, brown and beautiful. He had full lips, pink and luscious. His entire face was sculpted to perfection. He was dressed in rags that barely clung to his muscular, lean body. The one thing that Yunho failed to notice until after the momentary visual shock was the dagger in the other’s hand.
“I’m not here to hurt you,” Yunho gently said, but that only set the Cyphronian off. The dagger was pressed against his neck, ready to slice through his jugular. A gunshot was fired and the creature cried out in pain, the knife dropping out of his hand. Yunho looked around and saw the captain smirking with his riffle out. “What are you doing?”
“No ‘thank you’?” questioned the man. “He was going to kill you.”
“He was only using self-defense,” Yunho defended and crouched down to the injured Cyphronian. The creature’s eyes narrowed and he hissed at Yunho while clutching his arm. Yunho raised his hands, hoping to calm the other down. “I’m not going to hurt you.”
Yunho carefully reached out to the creature’s arm, but the second he touched the other’s skin, the Cyphronian attacked him, biting his arm with his razor-like teeth. Yunho hollered and ripped his arm away from the other in pain. He could see the captain aiming for the creature once more.
“No!” yelled Yunho. “We need him, remember? We can’t kill him!”
The captain lowered his weapon and nodded to another two crew members to get the beautiful creature. They cuffed his wrists together and gagged him, soon dragging him to the ship without a care. Yunho was being seen by their only doctor and the captain came in to visit him.
“Your friend is now detained,” he announced. “I knew you’d find one instantly. I’m glad I followed you.”
“He needs to be treated,” said Yunho, choosing to ignore what the man said. “He’s been shot and he’s no good to us dead.”
“Fine, Yesung, you’ll tend to his wounds after you’re done with Yunho,” stated the captain. “You don’t have to worry. He’s completely locked up.”
“Yes, sir,” agreed Yesung.

“Hi,” uttered Yunho nervously. His arm had just been patched up and he was already back with the creature. The male being sniffed the air and his cougar tail flicked back and forth with attitude. There was a growl heard beneath the gag to let Yunho know that he definitely remembered him. Yunho took off the blindfold and was met with a striking glare that sent shivers down Yunho’s spine. Next, he took off the gag and quickly backed away before the creature decided to use his arm as a chewing toy again.
“Do you speak?” he asked to which he received no reply, only more growls. Knowing that nothing more would happen, he left the Cyphronian to get food. In thirty minutes, he was back with a slab of raw steak. He was certain that there were no cows in Cyphron, so it would be interesting to see if the creature would eat it.
He placed the plate down in front of the beauty and backed away. The Cyphronian merely glanced at it before going back to glaring at Yunho.
“It’s food,” stated the human, but received to recognition for his words. “This is going to be hard. Well, if you want food, it’s right here. I know you can smell the meat, so I’ll just leave you alone with it.”
Yunho started walking away, but heard a louder growl. He turned around and saw the Cyphronian trying to reach the meat, but to no avail. Yunho felt like smacking his head. Of course he would not be able to eat it while he was completely tied up.
“Alright, I’m going to feed you,” said Yunho, taking careful steps back to not startle the creature. “Promise you won’t bite me again?”
Silence…
“I’ll take that as a yes.”
Yunho picked up the slab of meat that had red liquid dripping off the bottom as he held it up. He brought it close to the Cyphronian’s mouth and the creature eyed it inquisitively, sniffing it slightly. Deeming it safe, he bit into the meat. Enjoying the flavour, he continued to eat the meat until it was almost done. Yunho pulled away before the last bite, scared that the creature might bite his fingers. He mimicked a toss and the creature perked up. Yunho tossed the last bit of meat and the Cyphronian caught it in his mouth, devouring it in a second. Yunho grinned, absolutely amazed by the being.
“You’re gorgeous,” he said in awe. “I really wish that you could speak English though. I guess I’ll have to start teaching you some. How should I do this?”
He obviously received no answer, but Yunho suddenly smiled. He grabbed one of the bars of the creature’s cage and the other followed his actions with questioning eyes.
“Bar,” he simply stated and then placed his hand on the floor. “Floor… Eyes… Nose… Ears…” There was still no response, but it seemed like the creature knew what he was doing. Yunho then placed his hand over his heart and smiled. “Yunho…”
There was still nothing and he sighed with slight defeat. Getting up, he started walking away. He was definitely going to come back with more food and label more words for the creature. He was also determined to make the Cyphronian learn his name.
~*~*~*~*~*~
“Yunho… Yunho… Yunho…,” the human repeated, pressing his chest with his hand over and over. It had been two days of observing the creature, taking note of everything about the other and trying his utmost to gain some form of acquaintance with him. Yunho could say that they were making some progress. The creature no longer growled when he came in. “Yunho…”
There was absolutely nothing going on in the other’s eyes and Yunho sighed. He really wanted the creature to learn his name, but there was nothing to tell him that the other was even registering his words. He then thought of something that could be rather dangerous. He said his name once more and then slowly reached his hand out to the creature.
The Cyphronian eyed his hand wearily, not sure what to do. Yunho placed his hand on the other’s chest, letting out a shaky breath. He could not believe that he was really touching the other without the creature trying to attack him. The Cyphronian definitely tensed up, but the other still made no movement. He had been thinking about naming the other ever since he first started teaching him and he understood why his father had such trouble naming anything of the planet. It was impossible for any name to capture the essence of the exquisite creature before him.
“Jaejoong…,” he mumbled. He had come to a decision to give this creature that name after recalling it from a novel he once read. The man in the book was handsome, yet so gorgeous at once and Yunho could only think of that. “Yunho… Jaejoong…”
The other’s eyes flashed a small amount of shock and he quickly backed away from Yunho, looking positively scared. Having no clue what went wrong, Yunho backed away too to give the creature some space.
“Sorry,” he murmured. “Did I do something wrong?”
The creature remained silent like always and merely stared down at the floor with searching eyes, still looking a little frightened. Yunho decided to leave the other alone after waving his hand in front of his face to receive no response.
“He named me.”
