A Tale of Two Donuts

Dec 27, 2021 11:07

Jessica is out with her mom and grandfather yesterday and today. So waking up and staying motivated is a little more difficult.

My teeth are still achy, and I just wasn’t in the mood to make breakfast myself. As a treat for my mother and me, I decided to slip out for donuts.

The shop was empty of customers until I entered, and another soon followed behind me. I was ordering an assorted dozen, and he just a couple. We swapped glass cabinets and completed our orders with our associated shop clerks. My clerk grabbed donut holes for both of us and said “thank you” while nodding with the bags.

I got home and pulled the bags out, to microwave our breakfast sandwiches fresh. But no holes. Instead I’d been given his giant cinnamon roll and a blueberry cake donut.

I’m more upset that he is missing out on his choice, that there might be a disappointed child or spouse waiting on his return with their requested item, only to have received double freebie plain glazed holes.

It was really quite upsetting me, so after I had taken mom’s tray in, and then had a couple for myself of our assorted, I nested the roll and blueberry into the box, and oddly I could step away from the table not feeling like a cruel joke was being played.

Jessica likes both of those things, so no jam on my hands…
