"What would a committed long term serious relationship be, if not a husband?"
Exactly! So on the flipside, if a marriage is the same as a committed long term relationship, why should I get married? I don't know, Tom, I could always change my mind. But from my experience, the human race isn't monogamous. We have the potential of growing out of one another. It's a natural occurrence. And while I see nothing wrong with divorce in and of itself, it's messy and I'd rather not go through it. These words are coming from my brain and into my fingers and onto the keys and I see plenty wrong with my statements. So I'm giving you the caveat that this is simply my view for right now. Who knows how I'll feel down the line. I don't want children either, but I could change my mind (although the likelihood that I get married is far greater than having children). It's that the typical American lifestyle just doesn't tickle my fancy. It seems so perminant...I think that's the word I'm looking for. I've never been a fan of permanence. Perhaps because I'm coming out of school where things changed constantly. Or that I come from a family that changed drastically over the years. Or that I moved a lot as a child. Or that my group of friends never stayed the same throughout my school years. I guess the permanence of a husband and children scares me. But like I said, this mentality could change as I settle into the hum-drum lifestyle known as the working world ;) ...although that changes constantly as well...always new creative projects and such, not to mention the fact that I WILL be changing jobs within the next year or two.
Not really a Brett Favre fan, but thanks anyway :) And a double date with Tom would be non-stop entertainment, I just know it!
What do you think you man has to gain from a long term serious relationship these days?
In other words, why would a man want to have a wife, in this day and age, if he is attractive, financially secure, and not a fan of children, as many single men are these days (that would probably be able to "get" you)?
Oh I agree, some men really shouldn't get married...they aren't 'cut out' for it and I suppose by that I mean that the whole prospect would make them unhappy. Some men are looking for a lifetime companion though, even without kids. It all depends on the person.
