"Not chocolate?"
"Just carrot... It's made with shredded carrots and walnuts and raisins."
"No chocolate or anything?"
"No, sir, just carrot cake."
"Oh..." *continues to look bewildered*

To make things even better, after this exchange I went up to the gelato bar so that TM could have a break. The very same customers then had the very same conversation with my other TM at the counter.
