I had the idea that my trip would be some kind of Zen pilgrimage. I haven't figured out how to integrate Zen meditation and technology. Can it be done?

Wow, I have a Pentax, too, a (half automatic) and used to have access to a Nikon Coolpix which I loved (forgot themodel... the black one 600/800?)! I have to admit that my photographing skills went downhill after I got my hands on the digital; it makes things too easy! Unfortunately or luckily, it belonged to my ex boyfriend who took the camera with him when he left. If I had really much spare money, I'd go for one of these Leicas that you operate like a manual camera, while taking digital images. Very very tempting, these models. But not cheap :/

I love my camera. I usually take pictures of surfaces (love stones!), landscape scenes, random beautiful or funny things, or whatever I find memorable (friends, special locations etc.) And I make albums with funny comments, so I think they won'tbe wasted even if I have to pass them on one day :P But they're mainly for myself. Berlin is so grey, I need those images to lift my spirit every now and then. I've been cursing and sweating, carrying my camera around (and it takes up 1/3rd of my backpack), but I've rarely if ever regrettet it. Of course, if I was just looking for images I want to draw, a compact camera would be enough to catch the rough motive. I still have my old one for journeys with destinations where I would fear the camera could get stolen.
And there are always these instant disposable cameras you could get back too, should you decide to travel "unequipped" and get regrets after your arrival. So, whatever you do, nothing is lost.

Although I have to note that, from the environmental point of view, disposable camera's shouldn't be used as standard. Too much waste :(
/end of environment protector rant ;)

Disposable cameras, disposable lives, not the 21st Century I'd hoped for... I used to be an environmental activist, but emotional burnout and RL took away the passionate energy. I no longer join actions or court arrest. Discouraged, I occasionally make phone calls, send email and donations... I'm supposed to call my Senator today about judicial appointments -- and, oh, dear, *counts on fingers* I'm supposed to move out in 3 days... *wanders off to find cellphone in a chaos of boxes, books, papers, clothing, CDs and DVDs and tapes, computer equipment, even furniture still being triaged*
