Character Name: Cain Knightlord
Character Series: Trinity Blood
Character Age: 10
Background: Trinity Blood - While this is a fair explanation of the canon, because of the canon point of Cain (Red Mars era), it's harder to find detailed information on. This is because the anime never dealt with the Red Mars era, and that's the most widely documented medium of the series, whereas Cain is taken from the light novels which the manga is based on. The wikipedia does touch on the Red Mars era, but the article has not been fleshed out well, so I've expanded on the background myself.

Created as one of four advanced clones for the UNASF (United Nations AeroSpace Federation), Cain was designed to be the pinnacle of what science could achieve. 'Born' in 2088 along with his twin, Abel - who was actually created to be used as spare parts should Cain ever need them - they embarked on a hard life.

The scientists pushed their precious clones to work hard, they had to become great leaders and stronger than all the others if they were to survive the harsh conditions of colonising Mars. They were treated as an inferior species, not quite human, and as such they were often just utilised as tools of the country's government they 'belonged' to. Cain was created in Germany (what would become known as Germanicus in the future); Abel in England (which would become Albion); Lilith in India and Seth in Canada.

At some point during their time on the colony there was an attempt on Abel's life, which left him stranded on the surface of Mars; Lilith saved him and together they discovered an alien technology which helped create the Ark - now in-operational and referred to as the "vampire moon" in canon. Two strains of nanoscopic machines were also discovered that day; a strain called Bacillus and one called Crusnik. They didn't truly understand Crusnik, it proved resistant to tests and difficult to work with, but the bacillus easily took to the colonists injected with it and gave them a heightened strength, longer life and a host of other skills - these later became known as the Methuselah, or vampires.

The canon from there on out is where the wikipedia article picks up the story properly.

Personality: As the eldest of the 'proper' clones - Lilith being a prototype for the remaining three - he had a lot resting on his shoulders. He needed to be fast, strong, intelligent, decisive, and a strong leader; what the scientists got was a little different than they expected. He was all these things, but he displayed a desire for pacifism and gentleness which stymied a lot of his instructors. Where his brother was filled with hate for being used as a lab rat, Cain appeared to want nothing more than to make friends with the terrans (humans) and was generally well-liked within the UNASF.

He could easily have become embittered during their childhood, as all of the clones were treated as laboratory rats and only existed for the purpose of serving humankind in the colonisation of Mars. However, he seemed to go the opposite route of his twin when faced with this adversity; he internalised the pain and degradation, and instead overcompensated in the opposite direction. He is usually all smiles and gentleness, calm and obedient, which is an odd blend of true feelings and a smoke screen. He does want affection and love, which is one of the reasons he gives it out too freely to others, but the smiles are often a mask to hide the bitterness of being treated as an inferior species.

His sense of humour is dorky and over-exaggerated, and the clues that this is the case in canon can be taken from where 01 bursts in dramatic tears after getting 'lost' following a map (as even though 01 is technically no longer Cain, his behaviour mimics how the boy was in the Red Mars era to maintain a believable façade). He might be seen to play silly tricks such as drawing on someone's face while they're sleeping, but none of his jokes would ever pass into anything malicious. Again, as with the front of smiles, these silly jokes are part of the smoke screen that often hide his true feelings underneath.

More amenable than his younger counterpart, he genuinely does have an optimistic streak. He wants to believe that one day his family will be treated as equals to the "terrans"; and that he is lucky to exist, even treated as he is, because it gives him the chance to be with his family. He is highly intelligent and enjoys learning, over-achieving in every task given to him to try and gain the approval of those around him. Despite all the smiles and silliness, he is perfectly capable of being serious if the situation demands it, stepping in to help out wherever he can.

The driving force behind his actions is, unquestionably, Abel. All of his family are highly important to him, but his little brother (or clone of himself) is someone who he has always been closest to. They are two halves of a whole, and seem to represent flip sides of the same coin, making them closer than natural brothers could be. However, this doesn't mean he is incapable of forming meaningful relationships outside of his family; to be accepted and loved by everyone has always been his dream, along with a peaceful life on Earth.

Abilities: Cain was designed to be stronger and more durable than the average human, though he has no actual special abilities or powers.

Sample Entry: [Cain is outside his house, raking the red and golden leaves that have fallen into a large pile.]

Falling leaves are so strange, it's sad in a way because it's like the trees are dying. But they're not really, they're just going into hibernation for the winter. And the leaves fill other purposes too; they make a mulch that feeds the ground when there's not much else there, they give materials for animals to make warm places to stay in the cold, and...

[There's a pause, as a grin breaks out over his face and he drops the rake on the lawn.]

...they're perfect for jumping in! YAHOOOOO!

[And suddenly there's scattered leaves all over the lawn again, as Cain rolls over laughing.]

Sample Two: One Meme Thread.
