[What is that sound floating out over the playground at lunch? It's piano music, just basic tunes being repeated over and over again from the open window of the music room. Cain has retired there to study the books that Charles gave him, tireless in his pursuit of being the very best at whatever task was set to him ( Read more... )

Spirited words. I wonder how many will remember them.

I hope enough to make a difference.

We need to work together, instead of struggling alone.

I won't spoil it then. [Because it won't and it never does, Scratch has been around here long enough to know.]

Struggling won't change whether you are in a group or working as an individual. When the town decides it they will make everyone suffer if they must.

Perhaps.

But it's what comes during and after that, how we choose to react, that says if we succeed or fail.

Success comes at not falling to the misery of the town. No matter how it may come about. At least that is what I think. Breaking out would be good too.

Mm, I agree. If we don't fall, then they haven't won.

It's a matter of "where is the bottom" in this situation.

Hopefully we'll get out before we have to find out where the bottom is, here.

Oh, that was rhetorical. I don't even believe a bottom exists in this place. Just an endless pit.

That's not a very reassuring idea.

Is that how you see it? I think it's very reassuring.

What makes you think it's reassuring?

We can never reach the bottom, because it doesn't exist. Thus we are in a state of eternal free fall. What happens when you fall off a large building and hit the ground?

[...there's a short pause, before Cain chuckles.]

You're right, that is a reassuring way to look at it.

suckers December 14 2011, 22:57:11 UTC
Precisely. So, with that said, you should try to enjoy as much as you can. It's all one can do in a place like this, wouldn't you agree?

That... and avoid the buildings going down.
