i was just upstairs getting jacob up, and murphy was barking out the window at the lady across the street, who he has seen every single day for the entire three years that we have lived in this house.  i yelled down the stairs "murphy!" and jacob said "you tell him, mama."  i must say that to him too much when he says "murphy lay down ( Read more... )

My grandmother had a home trainer come in, and it was wonderful. She had 3 labs, but 2 were older and passed away, and the youngest one was absolutely batshit. She ate every piece of wooden furniture in the house and they had to replace everything, and howled all the time. The home trainer honestly saved the house and she acts like a normal dog now. :)

i'm so glad to hear this. i'm really hopeful that it will solve things because i'd be heartbroken to have to re-home him.

Doggy Daycare is also pretty effective for rambunctious dogs. And in many cases it's pretty inexpensive. We spent 10$ a day with Tucker when he was a puppy and had a ton of energy. They send them home socialized, tired and happy so that there's less barking, knocking over and frisking about. Tuck would pass out when he got home!

I've been following the saga and my heart goes out to you. I don't know if you were reading me when Nicole and I had to give up Sydney (our red heeler girl) to one of our best friends. Syd just fit so well with his house and it was obvious that we were so much less stressed without her. I was tired of yelling all the time, having to be vigilant and I was really stressed. She stressed out our boy dogs, too. No one was happy.

Now that she lives with Dakota, she's happier than she's ever been. He doesn't stress about her, her behaviors amuse and delight him while they made me angry and irrational. She just *fits* there. It's a tough decision to make, I completely understand.
