So, I decided to not take the apartment.
One, the money. The idea of putting out 3500 for the month of March is just...terribly daunting. It would all come from this next paycheck, and I just couldn't do that. If I keep looking during March, I should hopefully find a place that I'll be able to afford a little better-I won't have to worry about April rent, and I'll know that I'll be getting my deposit back from my landlord in a (hopefully) timely manner.
Also, My computer exploded, and that's going to cost me about $300 to fix, and when I google mapped the neighborhood-I just don't think it's the right fit. The apartment is great-90% of what I want. But the 10% plus not great neighborhood plus expensive month of March...just not a good idea.
So, my search continues. I think I'm going to swear off Craigslist until March. Generally, by then, land lords and leasing agents are willing to make a deal-a deposit, and then pay first month rent when you actually move in. With looking in February, most places are looking for a March 1st move in, and when I really dissect my finances, that just doesn't seem like a great idea. It would really deplete my reserves, and I have a lot of trips this summer that I need the money for.
So, no apartment for me. At least not yet. The search continues....
