Still In Love
Four years into their relationship and pressure to take the next step is building up
Six
They never really celebrated anniversaries. The first one was just terrible awkward, neither of them had any idea what the other one expected and they basically stayed out of each other's way the whole day.
The second one was during Junsu's first year finals, they had a quicky before Junsu had to return to his dorm and continue studying. The word 'anniversary' was never mentioned.
The third one was forgotten all together.
And now here they were, five years since the first time they kissed. They were sitting on the new couch, which was ironic, Junsu thought since their first kiss was on the old one. They had just had dinner and Junsu had the night off from work. Well, he made sure he had the night off. He couldn't shake off the feeling that doing special at all on the night they were together for five years was just not okay. He peeked at Yoochun who was flipping through a magazine, acting like there was nothing special about the night at all. Asshole.
“Hyung.”
“Hm?”
“Do you know what today is?”
“Wednesday.”
“Hyung.”
“Yeah, fine. Happy anniversary, I love you, forever together, etcetera etcetera.”
“How romantic, I wish this moment would never end,” Junsu glared at him. “Why can't we celebrate it like normal people? Candle lit dinner, walk along the beach, presents and all that?”
“We can do that any day, can't we?” Yoochun said and put the magazine down.
“We could, but we don't.”
Yoochun sighed. “What do you want to do?”
“You could say those three little words, to start with,” Junsu said and got up to sit on his knees. “I like hearing it.”
“I love you.”
“I love you too.” They exchanged a little kiss and Yoochun picked up his magazine again. Junsu smacked it out of his hand. “What's the problem?”
“Junsu...”
“You're not even looking at me. Tell me.”
Yoochun sighed. It was one of those heavy sighs, mostly followed by a 'we need to talk' or a 'this can't continue like this'. “This day only reminds me of how I basically molested sixteen year old. Not really something to be proud of.”
It was Junsu's turn to sigh. “How many times do I have to explain to you how willing I was?”
“That doesn't change the fact that you were sixteen and vulnerable. I should have at least waited until you were eighteen and legal. And you didn't think with your dick as much.”
“Even if you wanted to wait, I wouldn't have let you,” Junsu shrugged. “You really need to forget about that. I'm legal now, you know? You can do to me whatever you want.”
Yoochun's smile was not satisfying Junsu at all. “What is it?”
“It's weird. When I read the newspaper and I see that some teacher had a relationship with a student all I can think is 'what kind of creep would do that' and then I remember that I'm that creep. I did the same gross thing. Sometimes I wonder where you'd be if I had rejected you. If you'd be the famous soccer player you've always wanted to be.”
“I wouldn't be as happy as I am now,” Junsu said. “And what we did wasn't gross. In most of the cases that get the news the teacher is like a hundred years old and the student is basically forced or manipulated into the relationship, you know? I'm going to be a journalist one day so I know.”
Yoochun laughed at that and pulled Junsu into a tight, one armed hug.
“We're a good couple,” Junsu said. “One out of thousands.”
“What makes you say that?”
“We've been together for five years, we still have lots of very good sex, we still do things together, we still like each other, and I still have butterflies after all this time.”
“That's true.”
“I'd say the only thing wrong with our relationship is that your best friend is your ex.”
“And you ruined the moment,” Yoochun sighed and pulled his arm back.
“I'm just saying, it's weird. And it's Kim Jaejoong out of all people. God I hate him so much.”
“Well he can be here any minute now so you can tell him that to his face.”
Junsu stared at him, waiting for an 'I'm kidding' . It didn't come.
“Why?” he finally asked.
“He was bored. I didn't expect this night to be all about our anniversary and feelings and stuff so I said he could come over. And he's already on his way, so I can't tell him not to come anymore.”
“I take back every single thing I just said about loving you and having butterflies,” Junsu said and got up. “You suck.”
“Oh, come on, he'll just stay for a little while.”
It was barely ten minutes after that and Kim Jaejoong was already at the front door.
“Oh, you're here too,” Jaejoong said.
“Yeah, I live here,” Junsu answered.
“Well isn't that nice.” Jaejoong passed him and entered the living room. Yoochun was making coffee in the kitchen. That's when Junsu noticed the grocery bags in Jaejoong's hands.
“Did you guys have dinner yet?” he asked. “I'm starving.”
“No...” Junsu said.
“Good, bring this into the kitchen then. I'm about to burst.”
Junsu accepted the bags and put them on the kitchen counter. “Is he really going to cook for us?”
“Did he say that? Nice.”
Junsu had only had Jaejoong's cooking a few times in the three years that he had known him outside of school and he had to admit, it was not bad. He himself nor Yoochun ever cooked and their meals mostly consisted of take out, ordering in or going out to eat. A home cooked meal was always appreciated. For a second Junsu forgot about the fact that it was their anniversary and that Yoochun had insensitively invited his ex over to hang out.
Yoochun started unpacking the groceries and Junsu looked on until Jaejoong came back. “Rice with a lemon grass sauce, spinach and fishies?” he said, already reaching for the lemons on the counter but then he stopped. “What's this tension about?”
“Do you know what day it is?” Junsu asked.
“Wednesday?”
“It's our anniversary,” Yoochun sighed.
“Then why did you let me come over?” Jaejoong said, looking confused.
“Because we never really celebrated an anniversary before.”
“Why?”
“Because Yoochun feels like a pedo,” Junsu said. Ah, it felt good to be mean on moments like these.
“Okay...so what now? Are you celebrating this pedo anniversary or what? What should I do?” Jaejoong asked.
“Just cook dinner,” Yoochun said. “We have to eat one way or the other.”
“I would be so pissed if I were you.”
It took a while for Junsu to realise that Jaejoong was talking to him. “I am pissed,” he said with a delay of thirty seconds. “What kind of person does that?”
“An asshole is who. You want to know what I got him for our first anniversary? A guitar. You know what h got for me? Nothing.”
Junsu gasped in horror. “What kind of monster are you, Yoochun? What was your reason then, huh? You're the same age as him, so you can't come with your pedo bullcrap.”
“Oh so all of a sudden you're on his side?” Yoochun asked. “I don't see what anniversaries even mean, really. Isn't it enough that we celebrate birthdays? Two birthdays in your case, Junsu? And you absolutely need presents for both of them?”
“Celebrating stuff is fun,” Jaejoong shrugged. “You should enjoy things more instead of bitching about everything. Now please move so that I can get dinner started.”
“You hear that, Yoochun. You're a bitter old man. The Grinch for all fun things,” Junsu said, squinting his eyes.
Yoochun put his hands on Junsu's shoulders and pushed him out of the kitchen. “Both of you are making a big deal out of nothing.”
“And this is your speciality right? Making others feel stupid even when you're the asshole in this situation.”
“Fine, fine, I'll make it up to you. Again. Goddamnit.”
