Currently under consideration by Rutgers University as ways to save money next fiscal year:

-Furloughs
-Salary freeze

Currently under consideration by at least OIT management:

-Voluntary reduction of employee positions from 12 month employment to 10 month employment, not working July and August, with a 1/6th reduction in pay.

But one could possibly find temporary work for the two off months? I'd take it over a mandatory 100% pay cut any day =P

Actually, it might not be better long term. it would be permanent, and if I then ended up getting laid off, it changes stuff with unemployment and such.

so is there a choice or will one be thrust upon you. Hey not working July and Aug, isn't so bad, you could do something else, ie freelance, take some time off, could be ok in the end
