burn out!

I'm getting really burnt out on my current job and am in desperate need of finding something else I would enjoy more. I love to bake and cook but I'm just not at a point where I could take a risky venture like open my own bakery...maybe in the a few years but what do I do in the meantime? Do I suck it up and deal until such time (if it ever comes ( Read more... )

HUGSES!

as for the bakery dream- i have friends who opened their own bakery 3 years ago. it's been a struggle & sometimes a nightmare, & things are just now starting to run semi-smoothly. so it CAN be done... but i'd highly recommend trying to find a little jobby-job in someone else's bakery to learn all the what-not-to-do's & stuff.

have you read 'The Alchemist' by Paulo Coelho? if not, then now's the perfect time for you to do so!

The Alchemist...sounds familiar but haven't read it...yet kinkyjedi November 28 2006, 01:14:39 UTC
I will have to look up your book recommendation and I'll let you know what I think. Thanks for the thought.

I'm glad that your friends' bakery is taking off. Do they have a website? I might like to check it out. I have just been dying to do something creative and fun and I really enjoy being challenged with coming up with original cakes. I did get a shout out in my Chiropractor's newsletter for a cake I made for them. I'll take the advertising for my small side business. Hugs back!

well, they HAD a really nice website at www.sweetsmithbakery.com, until an employee tried to update it & accidentally deleted it. i don't know how long they'll be down, probably a while... Lynn ran a little business out of her home for years, decorating cakes & stuff (all you need are business cards, word-of-mouth, & maybe some flyers!!!) they only opened the bakery b/c her husband got laid off from his IT job & he couldn't find another one w/ similar pay. but they eventually found their niche- they're the only kosher bakery in south carolina... (& they're not even jewish.)

i just read the Alchemist on the flight home from italy. it's about knowing your true destiny & having the courage to follow your dreams. ;)

Sounds like a good read coming back from Italy. How long is that flight? I hope you had a nice time...it sounded like you did from Royal_Spice's journal.

it's usually about a 12 hour flight, not including layovers (i.e.:too damn long!)

but it's worth it. italy is so really very worth it. going there has changed my life... 3 times. :D
