Rotary Club

I received a letter from the FG Rotary Club asking if I wanted to apply. Hmm, free trip to a foreign country for a year. I'd love to go. Yet I knew it'd probably be impossible because of my horse. I applied anyway, telling my family that once they picked me to go I'd just break their hearts by saying no.

Now I'm kind of afraid, because I think they may actually pick me.

I probably applied for the spirit of competition. The day before yesterday I had my interview. There were four men conducting the interview, yet it was not intimidating. They asked questions like: Why do you want to go to Germany; how many years have you had of German; what if we were to send you to Peru; how about Japan; are you responsible; how would you deal with the rules of the Rotary Club or your host family; what if there was a conflict with your host family; what would you say about Forest Grove; what do you want to do as a career when you graduate high school; how do you feel about giving speeches; in a nutshell, how would you explain the United States government; what hobbies do you have; why should we pick you ...

I think I did very well. Verrry well. The only part I think I really messed up on was, while answering the U.S. government question, I mentioned that I liked Bush. Even if they supported Bush, too, I should have never mentioned that. Otherwise, I knew what to say, I didn't say "um" or "like" or "ya know" very much, at all. I don't even think I said, "ya know". And I gave decent answers, and went away feeling really good about it.

Sometime this weekend I think I'll call them and say that my parents told me that if I went I'd have to sell my horse. They didn't actually say that, but I need an excuse. I feel so badly now for taking their time for the interview and considering me; I thought it'd be something like they'd take us out of class and have one person give a quick interview to weed out who they didn't want.

Oh well... Maybe I didn't do as well as I think I did. I wish I could go.
