Last spring, I was told that I had high blood pressure; it was was around 150/90. Not good. They watched it for a bit (I hope it was entertaining for "them"), but there was no improvement, and it became clear that I needed to make some big changes when it hit 200/120. That was really serious and I was sent to the hospital for tests.
Since then, I've quit being a community doormat, I'm making more time for friends, I've quit smoking, I've increased my exercise, and I've eliminated salt from my diet in addition to making better choices regarding food. It hasn't been easy, but all good long term stress-reduction and health-increasing choices.
When I look in the mirror, I actually feel like I look fatter than before (my clothes are fitting about the same) and my skin has gone haywire (releasing toxins?), but I know that it will all balance out eventually if I continue on this logical path of healthier eating choices and being more active.
Besides eventually looking better (read: healthier...NOT SKINNIER) has not been my main incentive, but an added bonus to getting my BP under control.
And Yesterday....the doctor's BP reading was 129/75!! "Optimum"
Hurrah!! -now that's a good reason to toot one's horn!!
