Jim Henson/David Bowie/ movie post

I ADORE Jim Henson's work. My childhood favorites were The Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, Willow, and The Storyteller. However almost a year ago I discovered that they'd made a sequel manga to the Labyrinth, at first I was almost happy, then I checked the art and wanted to cry. The beautiful conceptual artistry of the labyrinth collaboration of Brian Froud, George Lucas and Jim Henson was nearly obliterated by this hack comic. The cover art was beautiful which I admired until I opened it to check the artwork. The storyline is plausible I suppose, Jareth, king of the goblins (David Bowie ^^) decides once again to attempt to make Toby the goblin prince, and of course it goes from there. I really haven't read them, which I suppose I should considering I love Jim Henson's work and most of all David Bowie. Despite the painful art I'll try to endure.

Also I've come to understand, last year as well, that Jim Henson's children are collaborating with the same people Jim had on "The Dark Crystal" On something Jim Henson had wanted to do himself. "The power of the dark crystal" The long awaited sequel to the dark crystal (1982)So far the storyline sounds pretty good, and I await to see it, I'm not certain if it comes out this fall or if production begins this fall. Either way I am excited for it. Jim Henson had I guess wanted to make a sequel because from his point of view, he didn't care for the movie, mainly due to the lack of graphics and electronics available at the time. Despite his large cult following he still wanted to reach for something more satisfying, so hopefully his children pull out all the stops and leave all musical numbers and childish plot lines out of the movie. Yes, I know it's technically a children's movie by the standards of the 1980's, however, we've dumbed movies down... ALOT for children here in these times and I don't think even the most hardcore of fans could forgive the characters being too cartoony.

I really wish they would make another Labyrinth movie with David Bowie, I know he'd most likely refuse due to him having almost hated the 1st one according to a site or two of his, I would just love to see David Bowie back into one of his more flamboyant and lead roles as opposed to him being a secondary or even tertiary character like in the invisibles, The prestige (which I recommend you all see) or even the interesting Spongebob Atlantis tv movie (yeah I watched that too). Don't get me wrong , I ADORED David Bowie as Tesla in the prestige (haha an adorable mad scientist) and if you don't know who Tesla was... wow... just wow.

Anyhow nighty night.
