Goodbye, 2016, You Didn't Totally Suck

Jan 02, 2017 21:46

Okay, 2016 did blow on several levels, but it will always be the year I finally became a college graduate. Nothing can take that memory, or that degree, away from me. It's almost sweeter, somehow, to earn it this late in life, with a fuller appreciation of what it means for both my job marketability and my self-esteem. And I graduated magna cum ( Read more... )

Last year was definitely a milestone for me. A semester chock full of English and art classes felt like coming home, and every day brought me closer to a finish line that only added to the excitement. My graduation was one of those days I'll look back on years from now and still smile. None of the other stuff 2016 brought can wash that away. Hell, on a purely personal level, 2016 rocked for me!

It's lovely to read a post about 2016 that's got something positive to say. 2016 was a year in which you should rightly be really proud of yourself, and it's been a privilege following you on the journey!

I love your drawings, you have a lovely energetic style and there's so much variety in the different pictures - I admire you for experimenting with so many different media and styles - I can see pastels, charcoal, pen, and pencil here. I really like your colour choices, they're great fun, and most importantly, these are good likenesses too!

Thanks so much! It made the accomplishments all the sweeter knowing so many friends were happy for me.

Thanks so much for the feedback! It would have just been too boring to do B&W charcoal drawings fifty times, I had to stretch myself a little. It had been a long while since I'd used any of those mediums, so everything was a challenge, but that just kept it interesting. As for the different styles, I was just doing my best to make sure no two drawings looked identical and/or interchangeable. I didn't want people's eyes glossing over them, and again, it would have gotten boring to draw.

You have such a fabulous style. I suffer from, as you know, the inability to flesh out my pieces. Actually suffer is the wrong word, I love my style, but it took me a long long time to learn that it is what it is and is just as fabulous as the next person's more traditional kind of artwork.

Your style is both a little eclectic and very mesmerising :D I love your use of shadowing and colour, and the lines themselves are simple and clean and really pop :D Thanks so much for sharing. What a year for you, with the crazy and the sad and the changes, but look at all the things you accomplished! ♥♥

i'm glad to hear that things are going so well for you and your family and I hope that the new year is even better.
