She had been conservative in her attire when she was first introduced to him, unbelievably feminine yet cruelly hard at the same time. She shed so many of those layers for convenience, as if they were marks of her past, but those on her heart remained. It was awe inspiring, if only for the mystery she presented wrapped in unnerving remarks. There was so much to respect there, most of all intelligence, but the distance and reservation had kept his tongue in place when hers criticized freely. Perhaps the time for him to keep his words to himself was over.
"You're a beautiful woman," first came testing the waters.
"You must be very bored, Klaus." the raised eyebrow.
"Did I offend you?" then the bait.
"I'm not fifteen, and if you think you'll find me blushing."
"I think you're still too proper beneath all that ice." and the kick.
Perhaps he had pushed too far, and too soon, for she shifted to move off the desk, but his hand on her wrist was quicker, "So, you're proving me right."
The icy blue eyes never shifted away, though, "I abandoned all signs of propriety a long time ago, Klaus. They're too far behind to grasp and save any of them now."
"That's quite the challenge, and unchaperoned, as well." it was fascinating, the lengths one would go to to prove a point, and yet Shirin didn't budge as he closed the distance between them. He wondered if her lips had been kissed before, but did that matter when they felt soft and sweet against his own.
She wasn't kissing back.
Perhaps Klaus felt as if he was the one needing to prove a point. His hands rested on the hard wood on either side of her as he pulled back, still close enough to see a reflection of sort in those glasses as she looked back, unflinching. Something stung, and he had a feeling it was his pride.
