They assumed that Tristain’s hatred of Uther was for the death of his sister, never remembering that it was far older than that.
No one mentioned that Uther needed royal blood to confirm his claim to the throne. No one mentioned Vortigen, the man Igraine had been pledged to.
No one mentioned the raid on the castle, when Uther had slipped past the guards disguised as Vortigen .No one mentioned that for a man who processed hatred of magic, Uther seemed to use it a lot, to be willing to use it no matter what the price.
No one mentioned that Vortigen had been killed that night. No one remembered Igraine’s tears, when she realised the man in her bed that night had not been her fiancé.
People say that Uther loved Igraine. No one asks if the feeling was mutual.
No one mentioned the almost guilty look of relief that passed the Queen’s face every time her courses came.
That she wanted a child was not an aspect for debate, but no one asked if she wanted Uther’s child.
No one mentioned that her husband had sacrificed her, the woman he claimed to love, for the throne.
People had assumptions, they always did. Over time, it was the assumptions people were told. After all that time, who could say what was true?
And no one asked.

Yes, this, exactly! A lot of times when books/movies/whatever use this device (Uther posing as Igraine's husband) they sidestep they don't really consider Igraine's feelings on the matter.
Beautifully done, especially for so few words!
