Merlin could feel Arthur's breathing pick up as they sat together, their bodies now meshing as one. Merlin felt the need to pull away, not because he wanted to, because he never wanted to do that, but because he didn't want Arthur to feel the need to do this. Yes, Merlin was willing to sacrifice his health, and well being for Arthur, but never wanted Arthur to feel obligated in return. If Arthur were to hold him, he wanted it to because because Arthur needed Merlin in his arms.

Arthur began to feel slightly breathless as he realised what he had done, he had brought Merlin into his arms. After all Merlin had done, he didn't want to force this on him too. He didn't want Merlin to feel obligated, he wanted Merlin to be in his arms, because the boy wanted to.

“Merli-” began Arthur, when suddenly there was a loud knock on the door,
Merlin bolted apart from Arthur, the loss of warmth felt almost unforgiving as Merlin went to see who was at the door. Merlin had barely managed to pull the door open when Agravaine pushed his way through, causing Merlin to topple backwards and full down on the hard stone floor.

Arthur's eyes flicked down to Merlin, then onto his uncle, cursing the man slightly for inflicting pain on Merlin who was now rubbing his back.
“Hello uncle” said Arthur, looking straight into the man's face.
“Sire, you seem well” said Agravaine, who clearly had not expected to find Arthur in this state.
“Yes, but Merlin tells me it wont last long”
“Is this true?” asked Agravaine, who had turned his head sharply to Merlin, who was getting off the ground.
“Yes, my lord” muttered Merlin.

Agravaine stared at Merlin, his eyes narrowing slightly “What did you do?” it was almost as if Agravaine hadn't really tried to hide his displeasure
“Nothing” replied Merlin

“How long, before he's back?” demanded Agravaine, his eyes still fixed on Merlin
Merlin eyes flicked over Arthur who sat staring at their interaction, before looking at the ground, not wanting to meet Arthur's eyes as he said “Not sure, but I expect it to be soon”

Agravaine stood up suddenly and fled from the room, it was clear to Merlin that he indented to tell Morgana of their current problem.
“I suppose he's worried about me” said Arthur, breaking the silence, that had managed to go on for some time after Agravaine left.
“Suppose sire” replied Merlin, not at all believing his statement.

“Merlin, can I ask you something?” asked Arthur,
“You just did”
Arthur just shook his head “earlier, you said Gwen was looking after me”
“Yes” said Merlin his eyes casting down on the ground as he felt a similar jealousy creep up inside of him.
“How is she, I mean with Lancelot's death and all?”
“Honestly, sire she is just coping. I told her something, I think I dented her memory of Lance”
“What did you tell her?” asked Arthur
“Sorry, I can't”
“You don't trust me?” whispered Arthur, casting his eyes down at his arms, looking at the scars that managed to remind him of his current situation. Of course Merlin didn't trust him, how could anyone trust a man who is willing to beg another to run him through with a sword
“It is not like that” said Merlin moving closer to Arthur, reaching his hand out to Arthur, who flinched away.
“No, it is. How could you trust me? I can't even be trusted to be on my own” muttered Arthur
“You know it's not like that, the curse-” began Merlin
“Lance died before this happened. I thought we were-. I thought we were friends”
“We are” replied Merlin.
“Just not enough for you too tell me” said Arthur before lying back down, his head resting on his arm as he faced his back at Merlin.

“Please don't” whispered Merlin. “I can't bare it.”
It had been several minutes and still Arthur hadn't made any sort of response. Merlin closed his eyes as he walked around the other side of the royal bed. He held his breath as he opened his eyes. “Arthur?” he whispered looking down at the king who had now brought his legs up to his chest.

Arthur stared right through Merlin, his eyes directed at the hooded figure behind Merlin. It's bony hands reaching through Merlin and out at Arthur. He couldn't understand, why couldn't Merlin see it, why couldn't Merlin feel the hooded man. “Go away”yelled Arthur his voice directed at the figure behind Merlin

Oh I get it. I thought for a second that when I had written the last part I had made their eyes closed the entire time. I read it through like 10 times.. picking up all my other mistakes.

I think you mean as in: realise their feelings and admit them?
is that right?

Yep! And stop getting ideas about what the other thinks, and feeling like they're forcing the other and.... everything really. Oh and the magic reveal too :p

(However, dear author, I absolutely don't want to press you. I love the rhythm you're taking. I'm just enthusiastic!)

I wish I could, but I just don't really know how to write relationships or what not. The magic Reveal is very important for this plot. Just ah. God. I just wish everything I was thinking would magically appear on the screen.

Seriously you are my favourite person today.

You can take your time you know! We all love that you update once a day but if you need two to do something you're more satisfied of please take them.
And tbh you never know how to write relationship until you tried, and you probably are in the best place ever to do just that.

Honestly I have nothing better to do at the moment. I'm on holidays. I enjoy updating every day, means I write every day and I like that habit.
Oh and thank you, this little chat has made me smile.

Merlin wanted to turn and leave the room. If Arthur wasn't cursed Merlin would have bolted some time ago, but things were different now. Merlin moved back away from Arthur's line of sight, and sat down on the pillow-mound chair. He kept his eyes on Arthur, who was now trying to hit an imaginary object.
Merlin let out a deep sigh, as he realised Arthur was gone, and the insane man who begged for the end of his life was back.

Merlin pulled out the parchment looking down at the one idea scrawled across it. Angrily Merlin screwed it into a ball, and threw it in front of him. This was going to be Merlin's fate now, he was going to be a servant for a man who didn't really want him. A man who after everything Merlin had done for him would tell him to go away. A man who didn't even want to be alive. If Merlin did not have any sort of feelings for Arthur, he doubt he would have lasted this long, maybe a day or two. However, after almost two weeks of this... well lets say, Merlin is strong willed.

The hooded figure was getting closer to Arthur, who was now trying to swat it away. When Arthur brought his hand through the man it seemed to disappear, but only for a second. The hooded figure could not touch Arthur, and he was pleased about that. Arthur tried moving to the other side of the bed, his eyes glued to the figure. Arthur tried to move further back, but was restricted by the sheet, that was nailed to the bed. Arthur turned around for a second to see Merlin, he tried begging for help, but not a sound came out. Merlin didn't even seem to notice Arthur's struggle.

Merlin rested his arm on the chair, and prompt his head in his open palm watching Arthur as he tossed and turned in his bed. Arthur had his eyes closed, clearly having some sort of nightmare. A few days ago Merlin would have happily climbed alongside Arthur to keep him settle, but now it seemed silly. A few days ago, Merlin could pretend that Arthur wanted him, actually earlier today he was almost sure Arthur wanted him. Now, because he refused to tell Arthur about his Magic he was no longer worthy in the Kings eyes. It wasn't Arthur's fault he was scared to tell him about his magic. If Merlin wanted to blame anyone it was Uther. The man single handed destroyed Camelot of it's magic, he destroyed...well Uther destroyed anything he did not truly understand -his son included.

Arthur lay still after a good hour of tossing and turning. Merlin stood up and walked over to the bed, pulling up the sheet that was quite low on Arthur. More so for Merlin's sake than to make Arthur comfortable. Merlin did not need Arthur to show him the family jewels , nor the scepter that went along with them.

As Merlin turned to make his way back to the chair he stepped on the crumpled piece of parchment. He picked it up, put it against his leg and ran his hand over it repetitively to smooth it out. Merlin sat back on the chair, and stared at the parchment. As much as it hurt Merlin to understand that Arthur didn't want him, Merlin still wanted Arthur and he wanted his Arthur. The Arthur that bossed him about. The Arthur who thought he was an idiot. The Arthur who listened to Merlin, even if he would never admit it. The Arthur who treated Merlin not just a common servant, but as a friend. The Arthur that Merlin loved.

Arthur turned over, opening his eyes, he hoped that hooded figure would stay beneath his eyelids, like a nightmare only appearing when the sunset. However, unfortunately the hooded figure stood behind Merlin, the hood casting a shadow over it's face. Arthur wanted to call out to Merlin, tell him to look out behind him, but his throat felt tight as if some one had there hands clasped around it, enough for Arthur to breath, but not enough for him to form a word. He could hear the voices in his head slowly growing louder. They whispered such bad things to him. Such bad things.

This is getting worse and worse for Arthur. But Merlin seems to have found some "motivation" back. Looking forward to more <3

Happy Valentines Day.
____

Arthur could feel his insides turning once again, his chest felt empty and hollow as the voices grew louder, several talking at a time. However, there was one voice that stood out. The voice of his father.
When Uther was alive he had more often than not told Arthur of his disappointments through his words, adjusting them ever so slightly to seem grateful, but Arthur could always read into the true meaning. Now however, Uther was just telling him straight out.
“I can't look at you without thinking of your poor mother, you killed her, you know that?” Deep down Arthur knew it was his father's fault his mother had died, his recklessness with magic had granted Uther an heir, yes, but lost his (Uther's) beloved to the earth. “Do you really think that the people of Camelot trust a boy whose barely reached manhood?. Sure you can swing a sword, but what do you really know about running a kingdom”

Arthur pressed his hands to his ears, trying to push the noise from his head, or at least keep the noise at bay. Yet, Arthur had no such luck. The voice wasn't coming from around Arthur, but inside him. No matter how hard he pressed Uther's voice would not quiet. Arthur pulled at the sheet, tugging it down as he squirmed out from it. It felt binding.
He watched through foggy eyes as a light pushed him back down onto the bed, it glowed from above and if Arthur stared straight into it's center, for a second the voices floated away. His light. His, happiness in the dark. Arthur stretched out his arms, wanting to touch it, let it's warmth fill him up, let it take away his pain. Yet the light pulled away, disappearing from his foggy view.
“Come back” whispered Arthur, his arms out stretched, reaching towards the glow.

Merlin stopped suddenly as he heard Arthur telling him to come back. His feet frozen for only a second before stepping back towards Arthur, who seemed to be staring straight at him. Merlin could see amazement and even a little bit of happiness in the King's eyes. Enough to cause Merlin to forget about his doubts. Merlin stepped closer into Arthur, removing any space between himself and the bed. Arthur stretched out and touched Merlin, his hands were quite warm as they grasped Merlin's arm.
“Light, my light” Arthur whispered, only just audible for Merlin to hear him.

“You know he call you that don't you” said Gwen, who had made her way into the chambers and watched this small exchange.
“I didn't know” said Merlin,
“Suppose you didn't know that he calls for you, when your not here?” she said.
“No...”

Merlin got onto the bed beside. Arthur who wrapped his arms around Merlin, began to nuzzle his head across Merlin's chest, humming slightly as he did so.
Merlin looked down at Arthur as he talked to Gwen “He was sane, when you left. He kept asking about you, Lance, and about what I'd told you...”
Gwen opened her mouth, before shutting it again, allowing Merlin to continue
“How I ruined your memory of Lancelot”
“-Merlin, you didn't. No one ever could” said Gwen “Did you tell him, you know about your um special abilities?”
“No, I couldn't. Gwen, I can't trust him. I want to, I just can't”

Gwen made her way over to the two boys, Arthur seemed pleased to be holding on to Merlin. The king had his eyes shut and was humming to himself happily, clearly so as a smile was playing on his lips. It pained Gwen to know that Merlin didn't truly believe how happy he made Arthur. She wanted to grab Merlin's shoulders and shake some sense into the stupid sorcerer. However, instead of grabbing his shoulders she wrapped both her hands around one of Merlin's, trying to comfort him. Gwen understood his sudden change in attitude. Trusting Arthur was even more difficult for Merlin now.

“Sleep Merlin, I'll be here” said Gwen. Merlin went to open his mouth and protest, but Gwen shook her head and said “Arthur doesn't want to let go of you, don't make him”

Merlin lowed himself down upon the bed, resenting himself a little that he had taken all the pillows off Arthur's bed. The warmth of Arthur's body next to his sent him instantly to sleep.

It's already an important step that Merlin hear Arthur calling him his light. Great job!

Gwen watched the two boys sleeping in each others arms, their soft snores almost in sync. It seemed silly to Gwen now that she once thought she and Arthur had a future. However, this was something she understood. Merlin and Arthur, they well...what Gwen liked to call it belonged together. They brought out the best and worst in each other. Arthur had been nothing but a spoiled prince before Merlin came. Merlin changed Arthur more than he could ever understand. It was Merlin who had created an Arthur who cared, an Arthur who would be a great King. If only Gwen could make them understand how the felt for the other... In her mind the cure to Arthur's curse was within Merlin. Merlin would only have to admit his feelings, and then everything would be back to normal... well as normal as it could be.

Her hands brushed against Merlin's rough shirt as she pulled the sheet over the two of them, tucking them in. Even though the sheet with nailed to the bed, Merlin made it so the top half could be folded down, or pulled down. This was just in case his King got too hot, Gwen doubted Merlin ever thought the sheet would also hold him down as well. As the sheet was tight enough for only one person's legs down the bottom, Merlin's legs were scrunched up into a ball, his knees pushing into Arthur's chest. It wouldn't surprised Gwen if tomorrow Arthur woke up with knee imprints on his chest, especially the way he was holding onto Merlin so.

Gwen made her way onto the pillow-mound chair, tucking her feet, and long dress under herself as she watched the two boys. She put her hand down in between the armrest and the padded bottom, her hand coming in contact with a piece of parchment. Pulling it out. Still only one idea lay upon this parchment, she had really thought Merlin would have made more progress, but apparently not. Gwen pulled out a piece of chalk that she often used when sizing clothing, being a seamstress and all it wasn't uncommon for her to have at least one piece of chalk hidden within her clothing.

She picked up a book that lay in a pile beside the chair, both her and Merlin had read them as a form on entertainment whilst Arthur lay on the bed, or huddled in a corner. Below the chair there were even scratch marks where the chair had been turned around, to face another way. Gwen placed the parchment on the book, using it as a table. She placed the chalk below the first line, writing the number two. Gwen's penmanship lacked the softness of Merlin's. It would be clear to any reader that Merlin had a higher education than Gwen, whose education stopped at a young age.

After writing the number two, Gwen pressed the chalk to the page. When she lay in her bed last night, just before drifting off to sleep she had so many ideas, or reasons for Arthur to live. Now, her ideas seemed childish, and impractical. She did however write the only thing she thought to be true.
The confession of a shared love
That may not be too subtle to Merlin, but if anyone else picked up the parchment she hoped they would not be able to deduce her reason. If that one reason was enough to have kept Lancelot alive, she would have yelled it from the roof tops. She would have screamed it in the royal court.

Gwen placed the parchment back between the chair, clearly Merlin had left it there on purpose, because when she pulled it out it was folded neatly. Her eyes flicked over the two grown men huddled together, their arms spread carelessly over the other. She wondered what would happen if someone like Agravaine had walked in, or perhaps if Arthur became sane again. Would his royal highness screw this scene up, destroying any hope Merlin had left within his heart.

Gwen's always the one to point the boys in the right direction. Love seeing her taking a bigger role here. Glad to see Merlin starting to catch clue, too. Can't wait for more!
