He Who Wears The Crown (Future!fic)

When Arthur storms into his chambers, frustrated after a day of meetings and audiences and prospective brides, all he wants is for Merlin to be stood there, fire lit and meal prepared with a flagon of wine at hand. Instead he is greeted with a crackling fire, a room lit by candlelight and the sight of Merlin sprawled across his bed wearing nothing Arthur's formal crown, hands laced carelessly behind his head. Arthur promptly forgets what he was going to say. Merlin crooks one finger in a come-hither motion and Arthur follows, stripping off his clothes layer by layer as he stumbles towards the bed.

Merlin smirks, and reaches up to greet him, slender hands curling around Arthur's arms, bringing him down into a kiss that is playful and longing and full of sin. Arthur's panting when he breaks away. He pushes Merlin into the mattress, and the sorcerer rolls them until he is kneeling over Arthur, straddling his waist - bare thigh against bare thigh. Merlin moves to take the crown from his head, but Arthur stops him.

"No," He says, "no - leave it on." The crown slips down over Merlin's eye and with a grunt the other man pushes it back upright. Arthur knows from experience just how heavy the damned thing is but he wants to see Merlin like this - tall and proud - to know that Merlin could take the crown if he wanted to; to know that he never will. Arthur sits up, wrapping his arms around Merlin to hold him in his lap, and kisses him; a warm, wet slide of lips against lips - the moist slither of a tongue snaking out to touch and taste.

Arthur lets Merlin make love to him that night, Merlin's skin gleaming with sweat and his eyes as gold as the crown on his head.
