The Trials and Tribulations of a Werewolf and his Mate 41/41

Arthur let Merlin do most of the talking, they were his friends he would be bale to judge their reactions best. Some things Merlin didn't know, so Arthur filled in the gaps. They talked about their date, about the werewolf hunter, about how Merlin had saved Arthur's life and then Arthur had turned Merlin to save his. Arthur watched the humans' faces and though they appeared shocked they didn't say anything until the story was finished.

“Well,” Gwen said. “Merlin's always done first dates differently.”

At Merlin's request the two humans stayed with the pack for a meal. It was strange to have females around the table for once, especially human females, but it seemed the pack's table manners stood up to scrutiny.

“Have you noticed how Lancelot keeps staring at Gwen?” Merlin asked, for once not talking with his mouth full.

The truth was Arthur hadn't, he was still very much focussed Merlin, but as he glanced over he could see Lancelot was staring at Gwen. Not only that she was staring back. Arthur recognised the look. “They’re mates,” he said.

“I thought so,” Merlin replied. “So how do you feel about our pack getting bigger?”

Observing the happy looks of his pack the answer seemed obvious. “I don't mind at all,” Arthur said. He smiled. “It's good to see the pack looking so happy.”

“And you're happy?” Merlin asked.

“I've got you, Merlin, of course I'm happy.” Arthur sent his feelings through the bond, letting them bubble up ad overflow through to his mate.

Merlin smiled. “I'm happy too,” he said.

Arthur didn't need Merlin to say it, he felt it, but the verbal confirmation was welcome.

“Love birds,” Gwaine said. “Are you joining in with this toast or what?”

“What toast?” Arthur asked noticing the rest of the pack had their glasses raised.

“A toast to the happy future of the pack,” Leon said.

Together Arthur and Merlin raised their glasses. “To the Camelot pack,” Arthur said.

“To the pack,” everyone replied, clinking their glasses together.

Yes, with Merlin at his side Arthur knew the future of the pack would be nothing but bright and successful. He didn't even mind the wolf whistles as he kissed Merlin. He had his mate, he had his pack, what more did a werewolf need?

This has been such a wonderful read <3 <3

Merlin and Arthur were of course DESTINED to be together (which they achieved brilliantly) but I love how we got to see the whole pack too, and Gwen and Freya and the hints of Gwen's happy ending too :D I was left with a big sappy grin on my face, which was extremely welcome after a long day at work. I'm sad we won't get to see their pack adventures now...

Aww, I'm so happy Gwen got to meet Elyan and Lancelot in the end. This was a sweet, enjoyable story.

Thank you for writing this, I really enjoyed it. I love any mention of "mates" and "mating" in Merlin fic so this was a wonderful read for me. ♥

This was a sweet and fun read! Loved the werewolf domesticity! I'm so happy that Merlin and Arthur were true mates and that Merlin adjusted so easily. And the ending with Gwen and Lance (and Elyan) was just perfect!
