The next morning Merlin woke up slowly. He felt very strange. He didn't know where he was but there was an odd sense of familiarity. He blinked a few times, taking in his surroundings. He was lying on a bed; completely naked. He sat up against the headboard and took in everything. There was a swirl of different smells and everything looked sharper. He could hear sounds that seemed far away; voices, running water, plates banging together. Looking down he saw a large golden wolf curled up asleep next to him.
“Arthur?” he said, quietly.
Almost immediately the wolf woke up and looked at Merlin with bright blue eyes.
“Arthur?”
The wolf shifted but unlike the last time Merlin had witnessed he saw what happened. He saw every change of the shift, almost as if time had slowed down. The entire time there was an odd sense of 'mine' running through his head. He watched as the wolf transformed back into Arthur. A naked Arthur.
“Merlin,” Arthur said, coming closer. He was looking at Merlin's stomach. “You;ve healed,” he said, sounding relieved.
Merlin looked down to see a small red looking scar. “Arthur? What happened?”
The sense of 'mine' was growing, as was a desire to kiss Arthur senseless and a strong feeling of lust mixed in with wanting to protect him. It was very disconcerting. The crush he had been harbouring earlier felt like a ripple in a pond to the tidal wave of want, need and desire he was currently feeling.
“What do you remember?” Arthur asked, looking at Merlin intently.
He wanted to kiss Arthur but the look of concern on Arthur's face helped him squash those feelings down. “Valiant,” Merlin said. “He was going to kill you.”
“What else?” Arthur asked.
It was hard to think back when Arthur was right there and looking, and smelling, the most desirable thing Merlin had ever come into contact with. “I don't...” Merlin focussed. He thought back to the warehouse. He remembered Valiant about to kill Arthur, he remembered the flash of a knife and then the pain.
“Am I dead?” Merlin asked. Being naked with Arthur was rapidly becoming his version of heaven.
“No, you’re not dead. We're not vampires.”
“I know that. You're a werewolf.”
“So are you,” Arthur said. “I had to turn you, remember? I turned you to save your life. You agreed,” Arthur sounded worried.
Now Merlin remembered a little bit more. He recalled Arthur asking him if he could and his whispered agreement. Then there had been the pain of the bite but his mind after that was blank.
“I'm a werewolf? I'm not dead?”
Arthur shook his head. “When we turn a human they become a wolf. Your heart is still beating, you don't need to drink blood and your fangs don't appear in human form.”
“Is that why I feel different?” Merlin asked, processing how he now saw the world. “Werewolves see things like this?”
“Heightened senses, yes. Anything else?” Arthur looked expectant.
“Yeah, I want to fling you to the bed so we can have our wicked way with each other. The first thing I thought was you were mine.”
Arthur nearly flung himself into Merlin and started kissing him, sucking his lips and slipping his tongue in. “Thank god,” Arthur said when the possessive kiss was over. “I thought you wouldn't be my mate when turned but you are. You are. You feel it.”
If this was what Arthur had felt when they first met - the tingling feeling, the love, the lust all wrapped together Merlin was amazed. “How did you restrain yourself? When we first met?” he asked.
“It wasn't easy,” Arthur replied, nuzzling Merlin’s neck.
Just Arthur touching him did weird things to Merlin. He wasn't sure he could sort out everything he was feeling. “Arthur?”
Arthur pulled back. “Sorry, this is all new to you. I shouldn’t take advantage.”
“Is there a handbook - How to be a werewolf for dummies?” Merlin asked.
“No, but there's the whole pack. And me,” Arthur replied.
