The Trials and Tribulations of a Werewolf and his Mate 10/? anonymous June 19 2011, 22:35:57 UTC
Arthur. Arthur was all he could think about. The closer it got to seven the more intense his feeling seemed to get. Finally when the doorbell rang at five to seven Merlin practically ran to the door to open it, startling both Freya and Gwen.

“Arthur!” he said, as he opened the door. He was a greatly welcome sight.

Arthur smiled. “Merlin. I hope I'm not too early?”

“No, no, you're right on time,” Merlin said. “Let;s go.”

Normally he would have invited Arthur in, introduced him to Freya and Gwen but not tonight. Merlin was in no mood to share. Arthur was his. He simply went out of the door, turning around to yell a goodbye.

“Arthur's here, I'm going,” he called. “I'm ready,” he said to Arthur.

Freya and Gwen appeared at the door just as Merlin and Arthur started waking to the car. “Have a good time!” they called.

Merlin didn't look back bu waved anyway. He just wanted to get into the car with Arthur and head off on their date; just the two of them.

“Did you have a good day?” Arthur asked.

“Yeah, it was fine,” Merlin said. He didn't add he'd missed Arthur and had nearly driven his friends mad over his clothing dilemma.

“Good,” Arthur said. “That's...good.” He sounded a little despondent.

They got into the car in silence. Merlin looked across at Arthur. He looked oddly sad.

“I've been looking forward to our date,” he admitted.

Arthur seemed to cheer up immediately. “Really?”

Merlin nodded. “Even if I didn't know what to wear.”

Arthur gave him an appreciative look. “What you're wearing is very nice,” Arthur said. “Very...blue.”

“And you're wearing white and black,” Merlin said, noting Arthur's white shirt and black pants combination.

“Yes,”Arthur said. “Do you like it?”

“You look really smart,” Merlin said, he did like what Arthur was wearing, very much so. The shirt wasn’t too loose but wasn't too tight and the trousers clung nicely to Arthur's thighs. Merlin found himself getting distracted. “So, where are we going?” he asked.

“You have a choice, Merlin,” Arthur replied. “I have a list of places he can go.” He pulled out a piece of paper from his trouser pocket and handed it to Merlin.

Merlin read the list. He could work out what cuisines were served where but none of the names meant anything to him. “Which do you like?” he asked.

“Any of those are fine,” Arthur said. “You can choose.”

“You don’t have a favourite?” Merlin asked.

“No. If you're happy I'm happy,” Arthur said.

That really wasn't helpful, Merlin thought. He wanted Arthur to be happy. “Okay what about La Rossi's?”

“Sounds perfect,” Arthur said, turning the engine on and starting the car. “That is the Italian one isn’t it?”

“Yes, you’ve not been there?”

“We don’t go out to eat much,” Arthur said, pulling onto the road.

“We?” Merlin was curious.

“My pac...family,” Arthur said. “My house mates.”

“Like Lancelot,” Merlin said. “Us he your brother?”

“In a way,” Arthur said, sounding unsure.“You spoke on the phone?”

“Yeah. He sounds nice.”

“He is,” Arthur said. “Very reliable.” Arthur sounded guarded.

“Of course he doesn’t sound as nice as you,” Merlin said and he meant it. He could listen to Arthur's voice all day. “Do you have any other brothers?”

“A few,” Arthur said, sounding guarded again. “What about you?”

“I'm an only child,” Merlin said. “It's always been just me and my Mum.”

“I never knew my mother. I owe her a lot though.”

“I'm sure she'd be proud of you. A police officer. Do you enjoy your job?”

“I do. I like making a difference,” Arthur smiled. “And I got to meet you.”

Merlin felt his cheeks getting hot. “Well I got to meet you too.” He was glad he had met Arthur. He couldn't imagine having not met Arthur. “I don’t meet many handsome policemen.”

“I'm glad you don't,” Arthur said, possessively.
