When Arthur got home he was greeted at the door by his pack who seemed more like an excitable pack of puppies than fully grown werewolves as they hurled their questions at him all at once.
“What's he like?”
“What's his name?”
“Is he tall?”
“Are you sure he's male?”
“Have you asked him out?”
“When are we going to meet him?”
“Quiet!” Arthur yelled, holding his hands up. “To answer your questions; yes he is male. His name is Merlin and he's staying with friends. He's a physiotherapist with the most attractive smile I've ever seen. He's...perfect,” Arthur paused, smiling. “And we're going on a date tomorrow night.”
“So close to a full moon?” Leon asked. “Are you sure that's wise?”
“Wise doesn't come into it, Leon. He's my mate and we're going on a date,” Arthur said. He paused. “What do humans do on dates?”
Everyone looked at each other before finally their gazes settled upon Gwaine who had the most experience with humans and their odd rituals of courtship. “Well, Arthur, I think we need to talk.”
They went into the living room and the pack sat down. Gwaine took up a prime spot next to Arthur. Although Gwaine had never had a yearning for the responsibility of being an alpha he still enjoyed attention and he was making the most of it.
“So, Gwaine, what do humans do on dates? I assume they go out for a meal.”
Sharing food was popular courtship among humans and werewolves. Even if the former didn't go out during full moons to hunt their own food.
“Yeah, do you know what food he likes?”
“No. Normal...stuff,” Arthur said. “Humans aren't that picky, are they?”
“He might be vegetarian,” Lancelot suggested.
The thought hadn't occurred to Arthur. “I can;t have a vegetarian mate!” he said.
“So take him somewhere with a lot of options,” Gwaine said. “Like an Italian place.”
“And hope he isn't allergic to pasta,” Elyan said. “Or cheese.”
Arthur sighed. “I'll come up with a few restaurants and ask Merlin which sort of cosine he'd like.”
Gwaine elbowed him. “Not so bad at this dating thing after-all are you?”
“What else?” Arthur asked. “After we've eaten want do we do?”
“You can go and watch a film,” Gwaine said. “Or go to a club.”
Neither of those options appealed to Arthur. “Loud noise or sitting down in the dark? No thank you.”
“You could have fun in the dark,” Gwaine winked.
“Yes, but I don’t want to scare him off,” Arthur replied. Coming up to a full moon the urge to claim Merlin would not let itself be restricted to kisses in the dark.
“What about a walk?” Lancelot suggested. “In the park. You could talk.”
“Excellent idea!” Arthur said. It was an easy way to get to know his mate better.
“Just be careful of the full moon,” Leon said.
“I will” Arthur said. He wasn’t going to admit it but he was already missing Merlin. It felt like an ache that could only be soothed by Mel He knew the only thing that would soothe it would be Merlin himself. It wasn't a concept easily explained to an all male pack of un-mated werewolves.
