I feel like a crazy American redneck, but I'm discovering that I do have a problem with Temporary Foreign Workers.
Don't get me wrong, I'm cool with immigration. I'm all for people becoming Canadian. But I do have a problem with people coming here to work for a few years and then just return to their own country. I understand that they make more money here to support their families, but they're really not bettering their life. It's just a temporary thing and in my experience, it really is hurting the chances of Canadians filling some of those positions. The jobs they fill are ones that people hate doing, but there are still a lot of people willing to do it. The difference is that the foreign workers may be happy to do it, willing to work longer hours without overtime and without a wage you can truly live on HERE. So even when there is a pile of Canadian applications, the employers aren't even willing to consider those. They know they have more control over the foreign workers. A lot of times I know the Canadian options are unreliable...but unfortunately that's just what happens when it's a shitty ass job. You don't get the cream of the crop. That is the nature of managing/owning that type of business.
I have no issue with people coming to improve their lives. People coming for school, to try for a skilled job, etc. People for a working holiday experience. People who intend to stay here. I'm just tired of either getting treated like shit at a job for KNOWING my rights and wanting them. Or being passed over even when I have tons of experience and a couple of good references.
And I'm so pissed that people who have damaged and destroyed my property are allowed to get away with it. I'm not gonna let it go, I found even more things and will be talking to the police on Monday probably. Might have to wait because I don't want my new roomies to get scared off or something. But pretty obvious that they were just bitches for damaging my things.
Oh well. One thing that made me happy was finding out that Temporary Foreign Workers are only allowed to stay 4 years all together, then have to wait another 4 years before they can return to work here. A certain bitch has been here for 3 years already, at the very least. Probably closer to 4 than to 3, but I don't remember for certain. Anyway, she'll get her visa denied. Same with the other bitch, she applied the last day of her visa expiration. It allows you to stay until you get a decision, but they ask for you to apply at least one month before expiration. It's pretty obvious that she applied right then just to get it extended a little bit.
Eughhhh. I love experiencing people from other countries and cultures. Just a bunch of little issues that bother me about the situation in my country, and in my own life.
