natives used to pray to the spirit of the animals they successfully hunted, asking for forgiveness and understanding, and expressing their appreciation.

chipmunks confused me, as a child. when i saw an animal i could imagine the life lived. if i saw an ant i could imagine it going about trying to find food, and going back to its family in the little hole in the ground. i imagined a whole villiage of ants, and they were in families and the male ants would go home to their wives and kids. but chipmunks i didnt get. they seemed to disappear (i didnt realize until i had asked that they lived in the ground also) and they would stop and stare at you and i couldnt guess what they were thinking.
