For those of you who live under rocks: Southern California is burning.  And if not for the fact that I have friends who were evacuated today (in Malibu, Arrowhead, and San Diego), I love it.  Is that bad?  I love fire season.  I loved waking up this morning and smelling smoke.  Forest/brush fire is one of my favorite smells in the world.

And it makes me wonder if people will finally figure out that we need to do controlled burning every year, and by doing that, it'll contain these ridiculous wildfires we get going.  Then we wouldn't have to declare a state of emergency in San Diego, Riverside, San Bernardino, Los Angeles, Ventura, and Orange counties.  Seriously.  We wouldn't have these 11 out-of-control wildfires destroying the entire southland, spanning from the desert to the coast.

We'll still have the issue of the Santa Anas, of course, but the fire hazard situations won't be nearly as terrible.

But where I am, I'm in the middle of all of the fires, with a lovely layer of smoke sitting in the Riverside basin.  And since my house is at the base of the dirt mountains, I don't have to worry about anything burning right near me.  So I'll enjoy the days of brown skies and red suns, while waiting for news from my friends telling me who had to evacuate and who didn't.
